    Energy Efficiency Engineer

    OBJECTIVES

    MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    • Analyse data centre equipment energy usage patterns and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Conduct energy audits and develop energy efficiency plans that meet the requirements of ISO 50001
    • Recommend and implement energy-saving measures, such as equipment upgrades, software optimisations, and process improvements.
    • Collaborate with facility operations teams to optimise HVAC, lighting, and other building systems.
    • Monitor and track energy consumption and savings over time, and report regularly on maintenance of  ISO 50001 certification
    • Develop and maintain energy management systems and procedures in accordance with ISO 50001, ensuring that we maintain our accreditation
    • Use power monitoring tools such as Schneider PME to analyse energy usage and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Keep up-to-date with the latest energy efficiency technologies and trends

    Requirements

    SKILLS REQUIREMENT

    • Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field
    • 3+ years of experience in energy efficiency, preferably in a data centre environment
    • Strong understanding of data centre operations and infrastructure
    • Experience with energy management software and tools, and knowledge of ISO 50001 requirements
    • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to energy efficiency
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Ability to create data driven models to Illustrate Impact changes would have In terms of energy efficiency.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • 3 years experience in a similar role
    • Excellent Excel Skills

    Field Device Technician - Gauteng

    Description

    • The Field Device Technician will oversee comprehensive OT device management, including supervising firmware updates, patching vulnerabilities, and handling communication protocols like NTP.
    • A significant part of this role includes managing Power Distribution Units (PDUs), effectively integrating them with power monitoring software for enhanced oversight and control and managing the cyber security requirement for these device.
    • This role extends to planning device lifecycle replacement, particularly when devices are no longer supported by the OEM.
    • The technician will employ tools such as 'Microsoft Defender for IoT', 'Claroty', and 'Dragos' for proactive threat detection, and will address any issues identified by these platforms.
    • Key responsibilities also involve life cycle management and patch management for PDUs, ensuring they remain up-to-date and secure.
    • The OT devices managed encompass power meters, fire detection systems, HVAC equipment, and telemetry-necessary devices. Additionally, the technician will configure these devices on recognised software like Schneider EBO and PME, as well as on custom-developed software and web applications.

    OBJECTIVES

    MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    • Manage the entire OT device fleet, including power meters, fire detection equipment, HVAC equipment, and devices required for telemetry, as well as managing firmware updates, patching vulnerabilities, and ensuring communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and NTP are up to date.
    • Configure devices on industry-recognized software such as Schneider EBO and PME, as well as on internally developed software and web applications.
    • Plan and execute device lifecycle replacement as and when devices run out of OEM support, ensuring minimal impact to operations.
    • Work with the BMS team to ensure that devices are configured correctly and that any issues with device communication or management are addressed quickly.
    • Monitor device performance and identify any issues or anomalies, working with the appropriate teams to resolve them.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, such as ISO27001, and industry-recognized training in OT device management.
    • Manage the development of technical documentation related to OT device management and ensure the knowledge is shared with other members of the team.
    • Ensure that devices are configured with appropriate encryption standards such as TLS/SSL.
    • Ensure an accurate OT asset database Is collated, updated and maintained.
    • Manage device updates , enhancements, and improvements ensuring these are scheduled In accordance with Teraco change management policies and procedures.
    • Assist with operational requests to Investigate and resolve system related configuration Issues.
    • Ensure that firmware updates are tested/approved before Implementation to prevent undesired effects on a live environment.
    • Formulate "Roll Back Action Plan" in case of undesired effects after Firmware updates.

    Requirements

    SKILLS REQUIREMENT

    • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
    • National diploma in electrical engineering or  a red seal qualification as electrician is preferred
    • At least 3 years of experience in OT device management, including managing firmware updates, patching vulnerabilities, and managing communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and NTP.
    • Strong understanding of security best practices for OT devices, including ISO27001.
    • Experience with threat detection and management tools such as "Microsoft Defender for IoT", "Claroty", and "Dragos".
    • Knowledge of industry-recognized training in OT device management.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including BMS engineers, IT security teams, and vendors.
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Experience in configuring devices on industry-recognized software such as Schneider EBO and PME, as well as on internally developed software and web applications.
    • Knowledge of encryption standards such as TLS/SSL.
    • Implement corrective actions promptly to mitigate the negative effects of system changes

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Matric/Grade 12 is essential
    • Excellent Excel Skills
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant device management experience is essential
    • Extensive knowledge of network topology and protocols preferable
