    Geologist

    Job Description

    The Geologist is responsible for developing optimal geological modelling detailing mineralisation and associated structure based on scientific investigation, mapping and exploration data and resources.  The incumbent is required to collaboratively develop and maintain geological models as primary inputs and investigations into potential economic ore bodies associated with operational technical business planning to leverage optimal life of mine scenario planning

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
    • BSc Honours Geology or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution
    • At least 2 year’s postgraduate practical mining geology experience underground
    • Computer Literate (Office packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in and lead assigned sectional and departmental safety, health, and environmental campaigns
    • Ensure that all Geological processes and regulations are adhered to
    • Conduct underground digital mapping, processing of geological features, sedimentology, structures and translate this into geological models
    • Logging of boreholes directly into the digital data capturing system
    • Actively participate in drilling program management to enable optimal exploration, development and extraction of the Ore Body
    • Conduct monthly grade evaluations
    • Manage data from mapping, drilling, logging and sampling
    • Participate in and contribute toward tactical operational planning and decision-making during production planning meetings by providing inputs, expertise and recommendations based on geological skills and knowledge
    • Ensure full compliance to quality management processes and procedures
    • Ensure efficient and effective mine geology systems and processes and continuous improvement
    • Think critically, analyse data, and develop creative/innovative solutions to geological challenges

    Underground Fitter - Westonaria

    Job Description

    • The underground Fitter is accountable for the installation and maintenance on Rail Bound Equipment (RBE), related underground infrastructure and fixed plant equipment such as Bulk air coolers, and pipe networks.  The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).  A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Fitter trade certificate
    • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Fitter on Hydraulics / Pneumatic systems and Battery Loco Maintenance in an underground Horizontal Logistics environment
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Proven track record in safety leadership
    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
    • Proficient in maintaining underground pumping/dewatering systems, cooling systems, as well as all relevant safety devices

    • Maintenance activities on horizontal equipment includes new era locomotives, skid steer loaders, hydraulic tip infrastructures, hydraulic box front infrastructures, bulk air cooler systems, dirty water dams and pumping assemblies, vertical spindle pumps and pipe network
    • Promote and develop team work to become an affective team member
    • Ensure that condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted effectively
    • Timely response to breakdown management, conduct appropriate root cause analysis and diagnosis
    •  Conduct expansions and construction of new equipment or installations as per works order

    Underground Electrician

    Job Description

    The underground Electrician is accountable forrepairing, replacement and upgrade ofcomponents underground. Including the maintenance of relevant records for all Winder and Electrical equipment installations.  The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).  A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Relevant Trade Certificate
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an underground electrician
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working on medium voltage (MV) networks/systems including substations, switchgear, mini substations, etc
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Proven track record in safety leadership
    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
    • Experience in working with low and medium voltage systems
    • Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of electrical installations
    • Proven track record of production achievements
    • Require to undergo further training and development on Winders and related Infrastructure and equipment, etc

    • Ensuring that condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance is conducted timeously and effectively
    • Conduct repairing, maintenance and construction of MCC’s, substations, crushers, conveyors and general maintenance in and around the Shaft
    • Repair breakdowns as they occur and assist with expansions and construction of new equipment installations
    • Align with planned maintenance schedules, including maintenance of relevant records for all winder and electrical equipment and electrical installations in area of responsibility
    • Promote and develop team work to become an affective team member

    Shaft Timberman

    Job Description

    The Shaft Construction Timberman is responsible for carrying out basic construction and maintenance work at the shaft and on shaft stations, conduct inspections on the shaft barrel, and changing of pipes. Also, for controlling explosives for blasting purposes, in accordance with safety procedures and standards

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Onsetter Certificate
    • Blasting Certificate applicable to hard rock mining
    • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a shaft and construction environment
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Proven track record in safety leadership
    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
    • Demonstrate experience in the use of explosives

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure health and safety of self and team members, working on the conveyances by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
    • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company Standards
    • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
    • Conduct pre-work assessments on each job and participate in safety meetings
    • Perform basic construction work in the laying of concrete for building works, laying of water lines, erecting notice signs, barricading of sites / worked out areas within section, assisting in the pulling of the reef and assisting Artisans in the maintenance of equipment
    • Conduct inspections of hanging side and footwall on a weekly basis, to ensure the area is safe within each section
    • Inspect shaft barrel on a weekly basis to ensure construction is safe, by checking the shaft barrel concrete, bunting boxes, buntings and guides, and assist Artisans when required
    • Change pipes (e.g. backfill pipes)
    • Supervise the Shaft Timberman Assistants in carrying out basic construction work, changing of pipes and shaft barrel inspections
    • Control the use of explosives for blasting and maintain a record of explosives
