    Clinical Nurse Practitioner - Masiphumelele

    Job Description

    • The main purpose of this role is to provide high nursing quality and deliver excellent youth friendly services at our adolescent clinic, based within a Health Park providing a space for sport and physical activity, education regarding healthy eating, and mental health support. The clinic serves adolescents 12-29 years, predominantly providing SRH and HIV prevention and treatment services, as well as general primary health care for those 12 years and older.

    Requirements

    • A degree or diploma qualification in Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatry)
    • Active registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
    • Clinical Assessment, Treatment and Care Qualification (PHC Nurse Clinician)
    • At least 5 years of nursing experience
    • At least 1-2 years staff management
    • At least 2-5 years Nursing experience in a primary healthcare clinic
    • Sexual and reproductive health trained, inclusive of Implant insertion and removal certificate
    • Familiar with latest, STI, SRH, PrEP, HIV Management and TB and guidelines
    • Experience working with adolescents
    • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of email, excel, word processing and internet
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good report writing skills
    • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
    • Ability to work harmoniously with youth of diverse backgrounds

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for the youth and adolescent clients
    • Ensure good clinic flow in the youth clinic (YC)
    • Maintain participant confidentiality
    • Provide education on sexual reproductive health including HIV/TB and STI education, screening and treatment and follow up care to clients
    • Rapid testing for HIV, STIs and pregnancy
    • Perform pregnancy tests as required.
    • Provide Family Planning counselling & services including insertion and removal of Implanon
    • Provide PrEP and ARVs as required and related education and support on side-effects, adherence etc.
    • Provide Primary Health Care services (including mental health) according to PACK & EDL guidelines
    • Assess, advice and treat the client needing a prescription
    • Ensure familiarity with local counselling testing and referral guidelines
    • Refer to relevant secondary or tertiary hospital as needed
    • Capture data daily on Redcap database
    • Ensure that consultation rooms have sufficient supplies to run the clinic on each day
    • Order stock monthly from Province
    • Provide stats monthly to DOH (Department of Health)
    • Manage medical waste monthly
    • Monthly checking of emergency trolley and eyewash stations

    Senior Biostatistician

    Job Description
    The main purpose of this position is to provide bio-statistical leadership and support to principal investigators for project planning, implementation, and data analysis across DTHF projects and sites. The incumbent will lead DTHF’s analysis of health data using traditional biostatistics and/or data science methods. The incumbent may also undertake their own research activities in a field relevant to the focus of the DTHF. The term of this position may be extended based on the awarding of new grants.

    Requirements

    • Masters in Biostatistics or Statistics
    • At least 5-years biostatistical experience post-degree
    • At least 4-years of experience in managing large datasets and calibrating data using statistical modelling techniques
    • At least 2-3 years experienced working in a setting/environment that involves the application of public health principles
    • At least 2 years experience analyzing data from clinical trial studies
    • Must have experience teaching MPH-level biostatistics and/or epidemiology courses
    • MUST have expertise with statistical software packages, such as STATA and R-studio
    • Highly experienced in implementing independent data analysis projects and running them to completion
    • Must have proven record in dissemination of research study results where contribution was as study biostatistician (i.e., peer reviewed manuscripts and conference abstracts)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Comfortable managing relationships with high-level stakeholders and senior leadership
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver high quality work.
    • Highly organized, self-motivated, and effective in delivering on set objectives for the project.

    • Must be willing to live in East London or Cape Town 

    Advantageous:

    • PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics or other related field or currently engaged in PhD program
    • Biostatistician on a NIH, EDCTP or SA-MRC funded study
    • Previous experience with managing qualitative research data
    • Knowledge of POPI Act and its impact on data collection, management and sharing.
    • Technical Project Management knowledge and skills
    • Valid code 8 driver’s license and own vehicle
    • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide expertise in study design, evaluation of study protocols, management of large datasets, questionnaires, survey methods and statistical analysis.
    • Engage with study leads / senior researchers during grant development to ensure appropriate study design and statistical methodologies
    • Engage with study leads / senior researchers during project implementation process to develop data plans for study implementation.
    • Conduct advanced biostatistical/analytical modelling as required.
    • Support analyses and presentation of data required for Data Safety and Monitoring Board reviews
    • Develop additional Data Science Skills required to undertake analyses.
    • Support training activities for project implementation as needed and consistent with data collection activities
    • Provide consultation and support to site data managers during the database development process to ensure that databases are tailored to meet study requirements and statistical analysis needs.
    • Mentor’s junior biostatisticians, data analysist, researchers regarding basic statistical analysis and methodology
    • Provide support, supervision, and mentorship to PhD students
    • Conceptualize and carry out a program of research in the broad field of DTHF focus.
    • Build appropriate research collaborations within & outside DTHF

    Senior Grants Pre-Award Specialist - Woodstock

    Job Description
    The Desmond Tutu Health Foundation is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Grants Pre-Award Specialist to ensure smooth budgeting process by managing day-to-day pre-award activities, including preparation of, and accurate costings for, grant applications, as well as to ensure compliance with funder terms and conditions, and provide advice and support to the Principal Investigators and researchers in the preparation of funder applications, working with them to complete funder application forms and liaising with external sponsors. Managing the organization pipeline and highlighting opportunities for funding to contribute to organizational sustainability.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Degree in finance
    • Minimum of five years hands on experience, working in a research grants environment developing budget
    • Minimum of five years hands on experience managing staff
    • Computer literacy in Ms Office Excel (Advanced)
    • Minimum 3 years working knowledge of SAP or similar financial package
    • Experience drafting Standard Operating Procedures and Policies
    • Excellent verbal and written communication; proficiency in English
    • Ability to work methodically, efficiently and meticulously
    • Strong planning and organizing skills and deadline driven

     Responsibilities:

    • Day-to-day administration and management of all budgets in the pipeline
    • Understand, interpret and advise on donor/funder budget requirements
    • Review synopsis of the protocol and compile a detailed budget with justification in line with funder’s requirements and restrictions
    • Coordinate with collaborating departments and external institutions in the preparation of grant proposals to ensure that all costings and justifications are completed in a timely manner to enable consolidation of the application
    • Ensure all applications meet the Organisation criteria with respect to overheads and cost recovery, and advising of full economic costing where appropriate
    • Maintain communication with all relevant role players to address questions, concerns and ensure budget and due diligence tasks and deadlines are adhered to
    • Ensure that budgets are submitted in line with funder requirements and within the required deadlines
    • Develop Strategic and operational budget for DTHF (in collaboration with Exco and RMO)
    • Develop Site strategic and operational budget in collaboration with GFO and CRS Leads
    • Attend the Faculty Meetings to provide PIs with updates on pipeline
    • Review award letters against application submitted and raise any variances with the PI or CEO to confirm that the project can be accepted and the study can be carried out within the revised budgets
    • Ensure contract tracking system is updated
    • Day-to-Day management of Pre-Award Specialist
    • Any other tasks and duties that may be appropriate to this position
