    Team Leader: Brewing

    The purpose of this role is to lead and manage a highly competent sufficient team to ensure the efficient and effective execution of the Brewing production plan.

    Overall, the end-to-end owner of all brewing operations (from malt intake to bright beer issues) in Brewing during their shift. The responsibility includes complying with production targets, planning, problem-solving, process optimization TPM leadership, and people management.

    Key responsibilities

    Manage:

    • Manage team performance and safety.
    • Facilitate team meetings.
    • Implement production team.
    • Support the team to achieve production targets.
    • Communicate performance measures.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
    • Ensure a clean, tidy and organized workplace and plant (housekeeping) – assist in driving the departmental 5S roll out plan, in alignment to other TPM initiatives
    • Support effective communication structure across shifts and between brewing, utilities, quality and packaging.

    Quality:

    • Manage process and product quality.
    • Optimise product quality; especially through leading departmentally selected Improvement and APM Teams
    • Analyse quality data.
    • Comply with quality assurance requirements – on time, in full.
    • Manage trade complaint problem solving process.
    • Ensure accurate and timeous capture and reporting of data.

    Managing Assets:

    • Manage assets.
    • Apply 5S principles in alignment with departmental roll out plans and principles
    • Support planned maintenance activities and give insight into where the key focus areas are for the department.
    • Support exceptional maintenance activities.

    Departmental Organisation:

    • Manage human resources.
    • Facilitate effective team dynamics.
    • Apply performance management practices.
    • Develop team members towards achieving their highest potential – for the individual team members and in terms of the contributions to the teams.
    • Support strategic people resources.
    • Ensure healthy employee relations.
    • Manage and apply personnel practices.
    • Ensure adherence to company standards and policies.

    Process Improvement:

    • Implement improvements.
    • Support innovations.
    • Facilitate problem-solving through leading the UPS process while on shift and driving the PDCA outcomes.
    • Eliminate waste where ever noted; through a strategic approach
    • Provide effective leadership.
    • Foster and implement TPM concepts.

    Housekeeping and Safety:

    • Ensure a safe, clean, tidy, and organized work environment.
    • Adherence to all SHE requirements (including PPE).
    • Ensure a clean, tidy, and organized work environment and plant.
    • Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education, training, and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Drive improvement processes and set priorities in order to develop, implement and maintain best-in-class standards and basic conditions.
    • As a member of the Brewing Leadership Team., you will be expected to give insights and to drive the departmental TPM initiatives and overall strategy

    Qualifications:

    • National Diploma / Degree in Science, Engineering, Food Technology
    • IBD Diploma or working towards one will be an advantage

    Experience:

    • 3 – 5 years relevant experience production experience
    • Experience within a brewing environment will be beneficial
    • Proven success of managing and developing a shift team – achieving results while maintaining a high morale and focus
