Senior Technician (Contract ending 31 December 2024) at Cape Peninsula University of Technology

Job Purpose

• Perform technical tasks in the Biomedical research laboratories ranging from assisting with maintenance and running of equipment, assisting with the practical training of post graduate students. Ensuring optimal laboratory environment.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• BSc degree in Medical Science or equivalent qualification
• At least 4 years’ experience in a research laborator
• Recommendations: Preference will be given to candidates with bioinformatics and biostatistics experience

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

• Ensure laboratory safety and standards
• Maintenance and expansion of research facilities
• Assisting post grad students, researchers and the department in statistical and bioinformatics analysis
• Preparation, maintenance and calibration of specialized equipment for use in the post graduate and research laboratories
• Purchasing of stock and monitoring of stock levels
• Orientation, Teaching and supervising post graduate students on the use of equipment, performing experiments
• Keep records and report on equipment maintenance and research projects
• Storage and disposal of all chemicals, reagents, media and specimens in accordance with safety regulations.
• Maintenance of specimen bio-bank.
• General housekeeping of all equipment, glassware and the maintenance of the laboratory environment
