    Principal Professional Officer_District Planning and Mechanism

    Requirements

    • Professional degree in Town Planning/City and Regional Planning or equivalent (4-year undergraduate or postgraduate [Masters])
    • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience is required in the field of town planning, which should include experience in the compilation of forward planning frameworks and/or planning policy
    • Experience in the field of land-use management, including compilation and/or assessment of land-use applications
    • Registration or ability to register as a Professional Planner with the
    • South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN)
    • A valid Code EB driver’s licence

    GIS skills are highly advantageous

    • Key Performance Areas
    • Manage a team of professionals to manage processes and to develop shortto long-term metropolitan, district, local, site spatial and/or sector-based plans/development frameworks, strategies, policies/guidelines so that meaningful spatial direction is given to investments made by all relevant parties to ensure that this is appropriately integrated with other City strategies
    • Provide spatial planning expertise, support and research to planning districts and metropolitan spatial planning initiatives
    • Provide comment on planning and land related applications
    • Facilitate the participation of relevant stakeholders in the identification, development and adoption of spatial plans, strategies, policies and guidelines
    • Develop mechanisms for the implementation of spatial plans
    • Manage multi-disciplinary teams of colleagues or consultants for commenting on and influencing development applications to co-ordinate planning implementation at district level
