    Media Planning Manager

    Key Performance Objectives

    Tasks

    Strategy Execution

    • Plan and execute all micro and promo schedules with Marketing and Programming respectively, as well as other related activities, including the delivery of downloads to both Argus and Samrand - in line with the Business Unit strategy

    Operational Delivery

    • Strategically plan and manage the implementation and output of micro schedules and promos for SuperSport
    • Break allocations: Determine commercial allocations within ad-breaks for DMS to enable DMS to meet their targets, revise if necessary to ensure business needs are catered for
    • Manage media plans for Enterprise, Marketing and Group barter agreements
    • Ensure that the correct promo material arrives in the building in the correct format, is ingested, slugged and scheduled according to broadcast event specifications
    • Ensure that the rights holders and events, including their sponsorship elements are scheduled according to statutory contractual obligations on the correct SuperSport channels
    • Proactive involvement in all enhancements on the LMKRS micro scheduling system for all departments, including Media Sales
    • Liaise with the Marketing for implementation of the strategy relevant to promos
    • Extract insights from research and industry trends to shape strategic planning for all promos
    • Regularly update and maintain targeting matrices and optimization tools to reach effective promotional goals
    • Take responsibility for the Sponsorship department in calculating possible rand values for contracts with clients

    Compliance and Stakeholder Management

    • Ensure adherence to set company policies and procedures
    • Ensure compliance to contractual obligations in all Sub-Saharan territories. Eg. FIFA, UEFA, CAF
    • Complete schedule maintenance checks to ensure there are no pre and on-air errors as per SOP
    • Ensure that schedule deadlines are met as per SOP
    • Comply with regulatory guidelines
    • Ensure schedule is compliant with the BCCSA regulation and guidelines
    • Ensure compliance to regulatory obligations in all territories that adhere to watershed regulations
    • Provide monthly/quarterly/yearly analysis of available on-air inventory
    • Document, track and report promotional inventory usage for internal and external partners as needed
    • Instruct and work closely with the other business units across MultiChoice to ensure correct implementation of the marketing strategy
    • Establish and manage effective working relationships with all support departments, as well as suppliers of key input and services

    People Management

    • Manage the Media Planning team, SOPs, roles and responsibilities,
    • Ensure on-air implementation of marketing strategy
    • Based on gaps identified, motivate requests for staff development as well as additional resources including people, budget and equipment
    • Explain targets and take accountability for the monitoring and achievement of performance objectives in the respective departments in terms of employee satisfaction, customer experience, cost performance, return on investments, risk & compliance and governance requirements
    • Implement productivity improvement measures by coaching staff on developing on any new processes or in their areas for improvement
    • Achieve the agreed target for Employee Engagement

    Systems

    • Take responsibility for testing and maintaining improvements on all systems
    • Business Super User for all systems including troubleshooting and problem solving
    • Creation of new channels
    • Managing the playlist for on-air channel IPI’s, and its relevant sources

    Qualifications Essential:

    • Post Graduate qualification in sports management, business management, marketing or media studies

    Experience

    • A minimum of 5 - 8 years’ experience in Television with emphasis on the broadcasting industry, especially pertaining to micro scheduling, business rules and protocol. 
    • Excellent understanding of the operational requirements applied on SuperSport channels, including bouquet platforms, across both SA and MAL territories.  
    • A very strong working knowledge of Synergy, Landmark Rights and Scheduling and related programs or systems used in the transmission process
    • Working experience and passion for developing and coaching juniors
