    HIV Testing Services Counsellors (Vryheid)

    MIET AFRICA, a regional NGO, requires three HIV Testing Services (HTS) Counsellors to work on the Adolescent and Young People (AYP) Programme. MIET AFRICA is a sub-recipient of AFSA, a principal recipient of the Global Fund grant, for the grant period ending in March 2025.
    The successful candidates will be based in Vryheid, Zululand District, for the period of their contract.

    Key roles and responsibilities:

    • Market the AYP programme to mobilize adolescent and youth between the ages of 15-24 years to become part of it
    • Support the process of screening young people to identify their individual structural, behavioural and health needs
    • Support the development of individual service plans
    • Plan, organize and implement support programmes for young people as per the programme requirement
    • Educate clients on HIV and AIDS, TB and STIs, and their implications through different programmes and policies
    • Provide unbiased information on HIV testing to clients and provide simple explanations of the testing process
    • Conduct pre-test counselling, obtaining consent for HIV testing, conduct TB and STI screening as per consent form, conduct finger pricking and post-test counselling
    • Refer and follow up on high-risk clients for further investigation and management
    • Ensure that all programme activities are documented and captured using the correct tools and through the biometric system
    • Keep all patients’ records/data confidential and safe
    • Ensure meaningful, effective and timeous reporting of all programme activities
    • Ensure allocated targets are met within specified timeframes
    • Work with the team and support them in their duties
    • Ensure strict adherence to DOH policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • Ensure strict adherence to the organization, NACOSA, and the Global Fund’s policies, guidelines, and SOPs
    • Maintain good relationships with stakeholders
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the clinical manager

    Minimum requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Certificate in HIV counselling and testing
    • DOH accreditation for finger prick tests
    • One year’s experience in HIV counselling and testing services, and outreach/community services
    • Knowledge of sexual reproductive health and rights
    • Experience of working with adolescents and youth
    • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Ability to be a team player with excellent people skills
    • No criminal record or registration on any sexual offences register
