Group Reporting Technical Accountant - Woodmead at AECI Limited

Job Description    

• Ensuring compliance with IFRS by implementing consistent accounting solutions for transactions and collaborating with the Group Financial Reporting team.
• Support AECI businesses in assessing new IFRS standards, developing accounting policies and manuals to facilitate adherence to IFRS, providing training on IFRS, and aiding in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
• Preparation and presenting papers to the Audit Committee.
• Liaison with stakeholders, communication to the JSE/sponsors, work with external auditors to address IFRS and financial statement inquiries

Participate in industry forums

• Preparation and review of Annual Financial Statements
• Assisting in the drafting of the AECI Group Financial statements in line with IFRS, Companies Act, JSE, regulations and best practice
• Reviewing subsidiary financial statements and provide guidance on disclosures, adhering to IFRS requirements and Companies Act
• Creating and sharing relevant reporting frameworks and templates for use in business, including financial statement templates, with a particular focus on international operations and improved disclosures
• Developing IFRS disclosures for new IFRS standards or interpretations and roll out of amendments to ensure compliance within reporting deadlines

New or amended IFRS Standards

• Staying abreast of IFRS and reporting developments and pro-actively expanding and deepening practical understanding and application of IFRS, ensuring knowledge transfer to the larger finance teams
• Development and roll out of project plans to adapt financial reporting in line with revised IFRS standards
• Researching the impact of new and amended accounting standards on AECI transactions with a focus on international and organisation impact
• Overseeing the implementation of new accounting standards across AECI (initiation, planning, execution, and monitoring)

IFRS interpretation and application across AECI Group (including international operations)

• Addressing accounting queries for IFRS for all affected AECI businesses
• Writing accounting opinions and position papers, including policy documents and manuals
• Developing and presenting training on IFRS to finance teams (including international teams)
• Liaising with Stakeholders

Preparing and presenting papers to the Audit Committee

• Liaising with external auditors, specifically on IFRS queries and Financial Statement queries
• Assisting with communication to the JSE and Sponsors
• Participating in industry forums

Supporting the investor relations team with technical queries on results and other ad hoc requests

• Staying abreast of IFRS and public reporting developments and pro-actively expanding and deepening practical understanding and application of IFRS, ensuring knowledge transfer to the larger finance teams
• Assisting in the planning and running of the annual audit

Qualifications & Experience    

• The candidate should be a qualified CA (SA) with a minimum of 5 years of related experience in a similar role
• Prior experience in consolidations advantageous
• Academic articles are highly advantageous
• Advanced IFRS knowledge and application
• Advanced Excel knowledge and experience
