    Brief description

    The main purpose of this position is to provide professional library services to the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and by efficiently supporting the library’s operations and effectively maintaining its materials.

    Detailed description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Provide effective access to the library’s collections and resources by implementing policies and procedures and by cataloguing and classifying print, audio-visual and electronic resources.
    • Maintain the organisation of the library’s materials through accurate inventory of resources to facilitate convenient access and efficient retrieval of information by users.
    • Provide library services in response to the information needs of users by attending to their daily requests for information and training them to effectively search the library’s catalogue, the Internet and other electronic resources. 
    • Communicate procedural requirements and/or circulating notices on new interventions/ materials to the personnel of the SARB through verbal and written mediums.
    • Arrange for inter-library loans of materials not available in the SARB’s library.
    • Conduct stock counts of library materials, remove outdated/unused items from the shelves and update the electronic databases.
    • Compile lists of overdue library materials and notify borrowers of their overdue materials.
    • Design posters and library packs to promote the resources of the library to users in the SARB.
    • Support independent research conducted by SARB staff members.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of: 

    • the minimum of a degree in Library Science or Information Science (NQF 7), or an equivalent qualification; and 
    • the minimum of 2–5 years of experience within a library or information science environment.

    The following would be an added advantage:

    • registration with a professional organization such as the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA).

    Additional requirements include: 

    • quality assurance knowledge and skill;
    • cataloguing and classification knowledge and skill;
    • administration and information management knowledge and skill;
    • analysing and problem-solving skills; and
    • effective communication skills.
