    Development Manager (UX and Design) - Group Shared Services

    Job description

    Key Purpose

    Effectively lead and manage the User Experience and Design team within Discovery Group Shared Services to the benefit of all businesses and products within the Discovery Group. Be responsible for the UX and Design of the Discovery website, apps and internal systems from a UX and design perspective.

    Create, deliver and implement UX Strategy for the Discovery Group. Own the fields of interaction design, visual design and user research within the Discovery Group. Work with all stakeholders to deliver effective, usable designs that meet business needs whether they be new functionality or enhancements.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    • Client Relationship Management & Networking (15%)
      • Ensuring alignment to business requirements, and building trust with clients.
      • Participating in client forums, MANCO, EXCO, planning/strategy sessions, reporting.
      • Acting as Consultant to the internal client.
      • Interfacing to other teams where required.
      • Interfacing to external clients, vendors.
      • Assembling effective project teams from the resources within the team to complete client projects to a high standard.
      • Continually grow the profile of design within the organisation by getting involved in high profile projects and delivering value.
    • Human Capital Management (40%)
      • Ensures that human capacity exists in the team being managed.
      • Driving the skills development of team members, coaching of team members for performance, and coaching on career development.
      • Recruitment, staff training, conflict management and creating a welcoming working environment.
      • Performance management of own team (objective setting, feedback, appraisals, incentives and bonuses, addressing poor performance).
      • Providing input to the performance management of others that formed part of the development process.
      • Ability to effectively manage a team of creative individuals with the appropriate management style.
    • Subject Matter Expert on UX and Design outputs (40%)
      • Ability to deliver UX and Design outputs at specialist level.
      • Able to mentor and teach junior to intermediate team members to deliver outputs at a specialist level.
      • Be able to give input from a subject matter expert perspective to clients within the business.
      • Manage your own portfolio of projects when appropriately skilled resources are not available in the team.
      • Lead by example and assume the role of thought leader with respect to user experience and design.
    • Strategy (5%)
      • Contribute to GSS Strategy creation and implementation.
      • Contribute to Group Strategy from a design perspective.

    Education & Experience

    • Qualifications Essential - Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) or CUX (Certificate in UX), and CXA Certification.
    • Qualifications Enhanced - Degree or 2 year diploma in Multimedia, IIBA certification (CBAP). User experience certificate, Graphic or web design, UML/Storyboarding, BPMN.
    • Qualifications Beneficial - BCom, BSC or BA degree specializing in any of the following: Informatics, Industrial and organizational psychology, Fine arts, Ergonomics, Industrial design, User experience, Information sciences/technology
    • Required Experience - 2 to 3 years managing a creative team consisting of designers and usability analysts, 5 to 8 years working experience including User Experience, Graphic Design and Business Analysis.
    • Additional requirements - Usability Analysis, graphics, Web Platforms.
