    Director: Institutional Planning

    Reference number: E17014    

    Job description

    The Director will be the Head of the Institutional Planning Department, currently comprising the Institutional Information Unit, the Academic Planning Unit and the Quality Assurance Unit.

    The successful incumbent should have a successful record of leadership in higher education in South Africa, a demonstrable record of nuanced insight into the South African higher education landscape and its regulatory frameworks, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and clear evidence of an ability to think strategically.

    Requirements:

    • The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Masters degree; or, alternatively, an equivalent tertiary qualification with a minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant work experience at the same or similar level of responsibility
    • At least five (5) years’ experience in a managerial position preferably at a middle to senior management level.
    • High level understanding of South African higher education policies
    • Strong analytical skills for strategy development, including the ability to use and interpret data to inform planning
    • Communication and negotiating abilities as well as high level presentation, relationship management and facilitation skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Excellent report writing skills
    • A meticulous approach, attention to detail; self-motivated and confident

    Responsibilities include:

    • Oversight of institutional research, quality assurance, analytics and data-driven planning and decision making
    • Oversight of processes for development and implementation of UCT’s Strategic Plan
    • Ensuring statutory compliance, reporting obligations, and coordinating responses to national policy
    • Oversight of academic planning and enrolment planning
    • Facilitation of UCT’s national and international engagement.
