    Resource Centre Assistant

The Nelspruit campus is currently seeking a resource centre assistant. The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

    Responsibilities

    • Assisting students with online journals (Ebscho Host, Cengage etc)
    • Assisting students with assignment hand-in, "Turn-it-in" app
    • Operate and manage the library
    • Coordinate and plan the development of strategic library goals and applications;
    • Development, maintenance and quality control of the library database for optimal information retrieval;
    • Selection and acquisition of print and other resources;
    • Technical processing of material: Classification and cataloguing of new stock and update library database;
    • Weeding of stock by disposing of duplicates and other out-of-date items;
    • Managing records concerning the collection, for example orders, correspondence and statistics;
    • Provide reference assistance;
    • Research library sources for information retrieval;
    • Assist in computer use when necessary;
    • Locate items in the catalogue and on shelves for patrons;
    • Perform circulation duties/ lending services;
    • Information retrieval via Internet sources;
    • Write procedures and notices for circulation and use of library resources;
    • Monthly report on new acquisitions, library news and updates;
    • Coordinate special events such as reading promotions;
    • Liaise with lecturers on academic content needs;
    • Planning and management of activities in the section to ensure regular workflow.
    • Provide materials and support services to support the instructional goals of the institution
    • Select print and non-print material to support the university programmes;
    • Build the collection to support the academic goals of the programmes;
    • Provide the faculties with bibliographies, catalogues and news of information resources that support subject areas being taught;Liaise with IT support e.g. tablet support, ePortal support
    • Manage provision of personal student access to learning resources (prescribed textbook orders and/electronic versions thereof)
    • Enforce library rules and take appropriate action in case of misbehaviour
    • Operational management of staff requirements

    Skills Required

    • Skilled and experienced in working in a Tertiary library, as well as relative library systems
    • Database management and process modelling
    • Minimum 3 – 5 years experience

    Qualifications

    Preferably Library/Information Science degree or equivalent
