Purpose of the Role

As General Ledger Accountant (mid to senior level management) your role is to proactively manage the Divisional Accountants to ensure that the financial reporting and service provided to the respective divisions supports better decision making and implementation of the divisional strategy.

• To further strengthen the relationships between the divisions within the Bank and Finance. To ensure divisions fully leverage off the knowledge and ability of the Financial Accounting department.
• To assist the Financial Accountant in performing his tasks effectively by providing timeous and accurate recordkeeping of all financial transactions performed within the company, including:
• Payments, fixed assets and budgetary control
• Accurate recordkeeping of all financial transactions performed within the company in order to determine the profit made by the company within any given period.
• To consistently challenge existing processes and procedures.
• A focus on developing staff, by providing guidance, timely feedback on a consistent basis and ensuring staff are given the exposure to be challenged and grow.
• Have a working knowledge of the VAT act to make sure all VAT legislation is correctly applied by the Bank.

Qualifications

• Completed degree or honours degree in Finance/Financial Accounting
• Strong preference for a qualified CA(SA)

Experience

• At least 4 years’ experience in a reporting/analysis role
• Of which at least 2 years’ experience in a management/team leader role where you have built, developed and led successful financial reporting/accounting teams
• Technically strong accounting abilities
• Strong managerial/leadership abilities
• Exposure to Financial Services, Banking or Retail preferred
• In the absence of being a Chartered Accountant, 9 years relevant financial reporting / financial accounting experience is required

• Intermediate computer literacy in MS office and advanced Excel
• Ideally knowledge of MS Dynamics, MS Query, SQL, Visual Basic

• Excellent communication skills in English (written & verbal)
• Business acumen - ability to work alongside the business
• Confident and enthusiastic self-starter who can take initiative

• Own reliable transport and valid driver’s licence would be a minimum requirement
• Willing and able to work extra hours, outside normal business hours as and when required, including occasional weekends
• Willing to travel and stay overnight away from home when necessary
