    Artisan - Fitter

    Overview

    The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for performing statutory testing on rail wagons' barrels bogies, preparing wagons for statutory inspections and repair of barrels.  Compiling inspection and test documentation; ensuring completeness of inspection & maintenance activites records.  Maintaining testing equipment.

    Qualifications

    • Matric (Maths and Science)
    • N2 or N3 Engineering
    • Fitter Red Seal

    Experience

    • Minimum 3 years experience in Ammonia rail tanker wagon and equipment maintenance.
    • Extensive experience in Staturoty Inspections and testing of rail wagons and/or other pressure vessels.

    Duties

    • Perform Staturoty Inspections and Testing of Ammonia Rail Tanker Wagon Barrels.
    • Ensure compliance of statutory activities, quality and completeness of documentation.
    • Secondary inspections of wagon parts and equipment, to well defined criteria using standard physical, mechanical and/or electrical measurements, and visual observation.
    • Accurately document measurements and observations from inspections and testing.
    • Overhauling right-angle valves.
    • Coordinate calibration of all test equipment and fixtures.
    • Inspection, testing and maintenance of Workshop equipment.
    • Monitor critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration.
    • Participate in the construction and/or revision of SOPs for the Statutory functions.
    • Assist in the writing and updating inspection proceudres, protocol and checklist.
    • Evaluate problems, initiate recommendations for possible corrective action to supervisor.
    • Perform repairs and replacements on rail wagons and components.
    • Ensure critical spares are available in the store and compliance to required standards.
    • Ad-hoc maintenance or repairs on running wagons.  May require travel across the country to train/wagon location.

    Artisan - Fitter (Rotating Equipment)

    Overview

    The Mechanical Fitter (Turbines & Rotating Equipment) is responsible for executing daily preventative inspection activities with regards to Turbines and Compressors, supervising OEM and 3rd party personnel during major shutdown and services, co-ordinating OEM Maintenance activities during repairs and services, preventing turbo-equipment failures, and solving equipment problems by applying first principles with regards to equipment mechanical functioning. Also the repair, service and full overhauls of all rotating equipment, such as pumps, fans gearboxes, rotary valves and blowers.

    Qualifications

    • Matric (Maths and Science)
    • N2 or N3 Engineering
    • Fitter Red Seal

    Experience

    • Minimum 10 years experience in turbo machinery maintenance, including stripping, servicing turbine bearings, journals, couplings, determining clearances, removing and installing diaphragms.
    • Extensive and in-depth Turbo-Machinery maintenance knowledge and experience (Steam Turbines, Tail Gas Expander Turbines, Axial and Radial Compressors).
    • Extensive experience in repair and servicing of pumps, gearboxes, fans and blowers.

    The suitable candidate for this position will be responsible for executing workshop activities at the Omnia Fertilizer division in Sasolburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing multiple repair and maintenance tasks throughout the day, which could include the flowing, but is not limited to plumbing and general facility repairs, as well as building work.
