    Director: Mining - Midrand

    Guiding Principles of Role:

    • To support the MD Earth and Environment and the Global Director of Mining working toward an overarching Africa Mining Strategy, the Director of Mining is accountable for the strategic direction and operational delivery of Mining in Africa.
    • Within a devolved and empowered leadership model, Director of Mining will be granted autonomy to make appropriate decisions to meet market and business needs, working closely with other Global Mining Leads, Managing Directors and Executive Committee members.

    Key Competencies:

    The key competencies in this role is that the person needs to be a crediable mining person with an industry profile who understands the clients needs and has the ability to match these with technically competant solutions.

    • Understand the Mining Market – have a good knowledge of the Africa mining market as well as understand the commodity cycles. Can use this information to align with Global and regional mining companis strategies so as to lead the Africa mining buiness.
    • Clients – be well know by mining clients through exisiting relationships and able to engage with their leadership so as to determine appropriate strategies to support their requirements.  Be aware and collaborate with the Global Mining client programme.
    • Technical compentancies – Understand the full mining cycle and how WSP can assist in the full mine life cycle.
    • Leadership – acknowledged leader in mining with a positive external market profile. Demonstrates the desire to constantly improve, motivate and encourage others; lead and implement change programmes; inspiring colleagues and drives an innovative and supportive culture.  Acts as a catalyst for change.
    • Financial/Commercial Acumen – Undestand how to develop competant winning proposal that match the clintes needs and be prepared to walk away from proposals/client if they done match the companies strategic Green Transition, technical excellence or create a potential reputational risk.  Needs a thorough undertanding of financial metrics and commercial principles that drive profitability of Mining projects.
    • People leadership – have the ability to encourage and hire mining talent so as to have a successful mining consultancy team.
    • Innovation and Technical excellence  – aligning with global best pratices via Mining PAN’s, researching and developing new engineering, modelling and delivery techniques; challenges the status quo.
    • Quality control – follows the rgional and Global quality control systems randing from ISO to internal standards and approvals associate with tailings reviews, dam break analysis and ore evaluation assessments.
    • Communication - demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively and uses own knowledge and experience to support and coach others as required.  Actively champions sharing knowledge, ideas and intelligence.  Strong presentation skills, able to lead and facilitate workshops, training sessions and one to one learning.  Influential and persuasive internally and externally; encourages open dialogue and feedback within the Africa business.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • BSc Eng / BEng / BTech / BSc (Hons)/ Relevant bachelor’s qualification (Hons); Advanced Tertiary Qualification advantageous (e.g. Masters, PhD)
    • Registration: Professional Registration dependent on stream (e.g ECSA, EAPSA, PMP)                   
    • Typically 15+ years’ experience; Including 8+ years Leadership & 8+ years relevant stream experience

    Junior Renewables Engineer - Midrand

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical advisory services for Solar PV, Wind Energy, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and Energy Yield Assessments for solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid systems.
    • Prepare functional designs, specifications, and tender documents for Renewable Energy projects according to internationally accepted standards. This work is done for clients in Southern Africa and internationally under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Prepare reports and drawings to meet stakeholder requirements under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Manage small to medium multi-disciplinary engineering projects, including basic project management tasks.
    • Attend meetings with project stakeholders and prepare meeting minutes.
    • Conduct site audits and contribute to Project Scoping.
    • Provide project engineering support during the execution phase of renewable energy projects, including responding to technical queries, conducting factory inspections and material testing, and monitoring construction progress on-site.
    • Prepare proposals for consultancy services.

    Qualifications

    • BSc Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) Degree (a Masters in Renewable Energy and/or Green Hydrogen is preferred).  
    • 0-2 years’ experience on Solar PV technology with experience in Wind Technology, and BESS considered a plus. Mix of South African experience (REIPPP) and regional overseas experience is also preferred.
    • Knowledge and field expertise regarding solar PV technologies including emerging technologies and the international solar PV market.
    • Technical advisory experience towards investors, project developers and banks is beneficial
    • Knowledge of various solar PV applications (utility scale, ground mounted, building mounted, fixed tilt, single axis and multi axis tracking).
    • International solar PV project development and delivery experience (preferred but not required).
    • Experience covering a range of renewable energy plant lifecycle delivery (including feasibility and development engineering, construction monitoring, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, and operational monitoring / inspections). (preferred but not required).
    • Knowledge of solar PV plant designs, Energy Yield Assessment, layouts and connection interfaces. (preferred but not required).
    • ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; however preference is given to candidates that are already Professional registered with ECSA.

    Key Competencies and Generic skills:

    • 0 - 2 years’ experience in Solar PV Projects
    • Ability to work within a team of engineers
    • Good communication skills
    • Good technical report writing skills
    • Ability to manage time, quality and effort in order to deliver a quality product within time and cost constraints

    Civil Design Technician / Technologist / Engineer

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Able to perform AutoCAD Civil 3D design and modelling of the following, for large scale infrastructure projects;
    • Complex site earthworks modelling
    • Wet utilities (sewer, water, stormwater) – Bulk services and on-site services
    • Dry utilities – Bulk services and on-site services
    • Corridor modelling, including intersections, roundabouts and interchanges.  Rail corridor modelling will be a plus.
    • Team player and able to function within a highly motivated team.  Must be willing to work an alternative start/end times for an 8-hour-workday in order to achieve a 4 hour overlap with Eastern Daylight Time (GMT-4).

    BIM Modeller - ELV - Johannesburg

    Job Description

    • We are seeking a highly skilled and detail oriented BIM modeller to join our ELV and C&I team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in translating engineering designs into accurate and detailed BIM models for our projects.
    • Create and maintain 3D models of Electrical, ELV and Control & Instrumentation systems. (Experience in other services such as Mechanical, Wet Services, Fire Services and Medical Gas Services will be advantageous).
    • Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate representation of system components.
    • Implement design changes and updates to BIM models as per project requirements .
    • Coordinate with the project team to ensure BIM models align with project timelines and specifications.
    • Conduct clash detection and resolve coordination issues with various services (HVAC, Fire, Civil, Wet Services, Structural elements, etc.)
    • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices for BIM modelling in Electrical, ELV and Control & Instrumentation.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to perform and understand multi service co-ordination is critical.
    • Site meetings during construction with engineers and contractors for the updating of designs and models.
    • Innovation for BIM purposes and internal operational developments (indication of innovative ideas that is submitted with CV would be advantageous). 
    • Development of BIM families.
