    Specialist Data Engineer

    Job Summary

    Job Description

    • This role provides an exciting opportunity within the Chief Technology Office – Data Solutions team. Working closely with business stakeholders and technology leaders, you will play a key role in the creation and implementation of Big Data applications and products across Absa. Support innovation, design, build and test applications that deliver analytical and predictive content direct to users, combining commercial, analytical and technological expertise. Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa Operational Risk Framework and internal Absa Policies and Standards.
    • Key Accountabilities
    • Project Work:
    • Work with domain experts to identify and formalize approaches for solving business problems using machine learning and data science.
    • Design, validate, implement, deploy and monitor machine learning models/algorithms on large datasets
    • Work with large datasets using big tools (such as Spark, Hadoop) and/or data science tools (i.e. sk-learn, pandas, numpy, etc.)
    • Comfortable engaging with business area subject matter experts, data analysts and system administrators to find data required for projects.
    • Collaborating with the engineering team in the establishment of data pipelines from source systems to Hadoop.
    • Working with lead data scientists to assist in the refinement of business requirements into measureable and actionable deliverables.
    • Collaborate and work closely with cross-functional business partners (business-unit technology teams) to assist and oversee the deployment of the outputs of your work.
    • Will create meaningful presentations and analyses that tell a “story” focused on insights not just data

    Infrastructure:

    • Contribute to data and technology initiatives as they relate to data science.
    • Familiarity with the Big Data stack (Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, etc.) as well as experience with using these tools to develop and deploy data products and applications.
    • Support data science colleagues in working with technology infrastructure colleagues to ensure a productive analytical and development environment.
    • Beneficial, experience with building ML products in the Cloud (preferably using Amazon Web Services).
    • Key critical requirements: Education and experience Required
    • BSc, BCom, BEng, BBusSc or equivalent NQF level 6 qualification
    • Degree in a quantitative discipline such mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science or engineering.
    • Understanding of and experience of using Big Data technologies essential
    • Understanding of and experience of applying machine learning methods is preferred
    • Coding/software development skills. Strong mathematical and statistical skills.
    • Strong programming skills, proven track record of coding ability and experience (hands-on back end development)

    Knowledge of information technology environments, administration, policies and processes. Working knowledge of financial and management accounting desirable

    • Scala (preferred), Python (pySpark), Java (as a precursor to learning Scala) including the key numerical, analytical and machine learning libraries / packages
    • SQL
    • Apache Spark (preferred), Hadoop
    • Linux/Unix. Bash. Git. SBT/Maven
    • Have the ability to work in either an Agile or project methodology to deliver tasks

    Real Time Analyst

    Job Summary

    • Contributes to day to day operational excellence by monitoring agent behavior according to internal scheduling

    Job Description

Compiles and disseminates reports on timeliness and accuracy in a timely manner and that is contains real time and historical information that assists in maintaining levels of accuracy. Achieving daily, weekly and monthly with Line adherence as per defined targets. Accurately and timeously updates all relevant exceptions on the workforce management system (IEX).

    Absa CIB Digital Technology is looking for skilled developers to assist with building out the Absa Access Foreign Exchange product. This is a desktop application written in ElectronJs/React calling into a RESTful back end hosted within an internal platform called Absa Access. It’s the Absa FX flagship application in the FX Product suite which currently serves our Corporate Customers.     What you’ll do

    • Develop User interfaces for Modern Rich Internet Applications with the latest Front end Technologies

    • Perform product analysis and development tasks of increasingly complex nature which may require extensive research and analysis.

    • Writing tested and documented JavaScript, HTML and CSS

    • Make design and technical decisions for Front end projects.

    • Develop application code and unit test in the React/Angular, Rest Web Services with ideally some C# backend experience

    • Ensure high performance

     

    Key critical requirements:

    • 3 – 5+ years development experience

    • Minimum 2 years front-end experience (experience must be in the last 2 years)

    • Experience in React (Angular beneficial)  

    • Beneficial Front end skills: Electron, Redux, ELK, Elastic, Fluent d, Kibana, State Management in a front end framework

    • Beneficial technical skills: Cloud, Rancher, Docker/Containerization, DevOps (i.e. pipeline deployment, repository management), Azure

    Key critical requirements:

    • Relevant B-Degree in Computer Science
    • 6+ years of IT experience
    • Strong Linux OS commands and shell script skills - especially sed and awk

    Risk, Governance and Control Analyst

    Job Summary

    • To provide specialist advice and support in area of specialisation enabling the effective implementation of risk frameworks.

    Job Description

    Job Purpose:

    • Be responsible for operating the Group frameworks, policies and standards to effectively manage Legal Risk across the functions and business units.
    • Perform / prepare Control Evaluations, Key Risk Metrics, internal and external Incident Reporting, and the necessary supporting Management Information.  In addition, support the broader risk and control agenda across the Legal function, raising risk awareness and proactively helping to identify, assess and manage emerging risks.
    • Perform control initiative and assurance for Legal Risks, ensuring excellent stakeholder engagement and agreement with all elements of project management covered.

    Education and Experience Required

    • At least 3 to 5 years financial services working experience.
    • Experience in a risk function essential.
