    Zero Waste Officer - JHB

    Job Summary
    Ensure that accurate sorting and waste characterisation is performed on the residual waste, arising after standard sorting and recycling activities have been undertaken on the site. The key result thereof will be to provide accurate ratios between recyclable materials, non-recyclable materials, organic / compostable materials and general waste that has been measured in the residual waste.

    Responsibilities
    Key responsibilities and accountabilities

    • Have detailed knowledge of all grades of recyclable materials and the acceptable level of contamination of such grades
    • Understanding of when specific recyclable material is regarded as being non-recyclable
    • Have detailed knowledge of organic waste and compostable materials, and what waste types would be regarded as contamination thereof
    • Have detailed knowledge of non-recyclable materials that do not have commercial value
    • Oversee sorting staff that are specifically assigned to the sorting of residual waste and ensure that the staff accurately sort and weigh all grades of material
    • Understand and correctly use the “waste audit” recording and reporting system provided
    • Effectively communicate with the Senior Site Manager and bring such issues that are of concern, that have been identified in the waste audit, to his / her attention (for addressing with the client)
    • Understand the concept of representative sampling and ensure that the waste audit is correctly representative of the total body of waste sorted
    • To assume the role and duties of the Senior Site Manager on such days that the Senior Site Manager is off duty in a seven-day working week cycle

    Administrational responsibilities                                                                                       

    • Ensure all training registers are correctly completed
    • Ensure that registers are submitted to HR on a weekly basis
    • Identify any problems or challenges on operational performance at sites and report to the Operations Manager /Senior Site Manager

    Requirements

    • Grade 12, Matric
    • Minimum 2-3 years working experience in waste industry
    • Experience, knowledge and skills in the recycling industry
    • Must be able to communicate effectively

    Contract Manager - JHB

    Job Summary
    Ensure that all sites and personnel are run as productively and efficiently as possible. Ensure maximum recycling extraction to assist with profits. Act as the contact person between the clients, head office and the Operations department to ensure client satisfaction. Ensure that all administration responsibilities, policies and procedures are implemented according to the code of good practice.

    Responsibilities
    Operational management

    • Planning of personnel for each site in order to meet SLA requirements and financial targets
    • Recruitment and appointment of personnel as per the company policies and procedures
    • Plan equipment and lay-out on site, as per the SLA agreement for the sites
    • Ensure that all sites have the correct stock, consumables and that the equipment is in good condition
    • To be well informed regarding the agreed SLA of each client and site
    • Oversee and ensure that all sites are clean, productive and operational

    Transport

    • Planning of cage and bin collections to adhere to site requirements
    • Liaise with the Transport Controller and service providers regarding the collection of recyclables
    • Collect and deliver service delivery notes to the finance department
    • Report any problems to the Operations Manager

    Client relations

    • Liaise with clients to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Maintain effective operations, productivity and efficiency, to ensure profitability on sites
    • Meet with clients to address previous / new issues, provide feedback on improvements and reporting on aspects of interest
    • Provide written communication / feedback to the Operations Manager regarding client relationships

    Personnel management

    • Induction and training of all staff as per the company policy and procedure
    • Responsible for the appointment of staff, to adhere to the clients SLA
    • Ensure that staff adhere to the company rules and regulations regarding resignations
    • Ensure all staff members are working according to the Code of Conduct and as efficiently and productively as possible
    • Set up meetings with staff and HR, when a staff member needs help or performance management
    • Address staff grievances as per the grievance policy of the company
    • Disciplinary action: execute the disciplinary process as per the company disciplinary policy and procedure
    • Weekly update of Secure Office payroll with working hours / days, absenteeism and leave, (in preparation for payroll) and ensure that all numbers are accurate

    Administration responsibility

    Daily reports on:

    • Absenteeism (complete the Secure Office attendance register) / concerns / relieve staff / IOD’s / damages / non-collections / complaints

    Weekly reports on:

    • Site visits / staff leave forms / IOD’s / operational feedback

    Monthly reports on:

    • Site profitability sheets
    • Site register capturing / verification of all data as required for the completion of the profit and loss cost report

    Month-end payroll duties:

    • Appointment and resignation reports
    • Ensure the site data is captured correctly by staff members and deliver the slips to the data department

    SHEQ responsibilities

    • Ensure that all staff has the correct PPE
    • Ensue that staff is trained on the OHS regulations
    • Ensure that each site SHEQ files are complete, updated and on site
    • Ensure that all staff has been trained on site, where dangerous equipment is used

    Requirements

    • Minimum Grade 12 (tertiary qualification is advantageous)
    • 5 years’ working experience
    • Experience in the waste management or recycling industry
    • Valid drivers’ license
    • Computer literate
    • Passion for working with people
    • Desire to serve customer needs, do what is best for the team and to treat all employees with respect and dignity
    • Strong communication ability in English; knowledge of additional languages is advantageous
    • Ability to work independently while remaining true to company policies and procedures
    • Sales and negotiation ability
    • Operational skill: establishing and managing operations at various client sites
    • A willingness to, at times, work on holidays / weekends / evenings if operations require it

    Senior Contract Manager

    Job Summary

    To manage the commercial sites that are assigned to him / her relating to staff, equipment, client liaison and financial performance. Ensure effective control and management of the sites. Provide guidance and training to less experienced Contract Managers in terms of site requirements, process flow, the use of internal systems and developing staff. Assist by acting in the Operations Manager position, as and when required to do so.

    Responsibilities
    Operational management

    • Assist Contract Managers with new site start-ups
    • Assist the Operations Manager with the financial budgets of all sites (for Contract Managers reporting to him / her)
    • Assist the Operations Manager with procurement, maintenance and utilization of all equipment needed for each site, as per the procurement procedure
    • Ensure that the service level agreement of each client is implemented and maintained
    • Continuous development of strategic planning to improve efficiency and profitability
    • Responsible for the financial implications with the procurement of stock, consumables and material as ordered by Contract Managers
    • Oversee, with the Contract Managers, all sites level of cleanliness, productivity and operational activity

    Monthly and weekly reports

    • KPI reports for all Contract Managers need to be checked and approved monthly
    • Site inspection reports must be checked to ensure that all Contract Managers complete the required number of inspections per site
    • Ad-hoc billing must be confirmed monthly, to ensure we bill all clients timeously
    • Ensure that the manifest is used to book all collections

    Transportation

    • Resolve daily issues in conjunction with the Regional Transport Manager and escalate issues to the Operations Manager if needed
    • Communicate with service providers and escalate any issues to Operations Manager if needed

    Client relations

    • Strategically manage client relationships to ensure customer satisfaction, by addressing problems immediately as they arise
    • Attend to proposals from clients and improvement of service levels (via site visits / regular phone calls to clients / emails)
    • Visit sites once or twice per week to manage and improve the progress, productivity, efficiency and profitability of each site
    • Meet with clients monthly to address previous and new issues, providing feedback on improvement and reporting aspects of interest (meeting minutes required)
    • Written communication / feedback regarding client relationships to be provided to the Operations Manager

    Personnel management

    • Complete induction and training of all staff as per company policy and procedure
    • Training of newly appointed Contract Managers
    • Responsible for appointment of staff, to comply with the SLA of each site as per company policy and procedures
    • Resignations: adhere to the company rules and regulations
    • Manage appointments / working permits / asylum document of foreigners according to company policy and procedures
    • Manage absenteeism daily by informing the Operations Manager and / or appoint or place relief staff where needed
    • Train and develop staff to ensure maximum productivity and profit
    • Address grievances of staff as per the grievance policy of the company
    • Disciplinary actions: executed as per the company disciplinary policies and procedures
    • Produce a weekly report of working hours, absenteeism and leave, as preparation for payroll and to ensure that all numbers are accurate
    • Conduct monthly meetings with all Contract Managers that you are responsible for
    • Ensure all Contract Managers conduct their site inspections weekly
    • Follow up with Contract Managers to ensure that all data related issues have been addressed
    • Conduct KPI checks with all Contract Managers

    Administration responsibilities

    • Daily reports on: absenteeism / problems / relieve staff / IOD's / damages / non-collections / complaints
    • Weekly reports on: site visits / staff leave / IOD’s / operational feedback

    Monthly reports on:

    • Site inspections
    • KPI report to check profitability (before the 10th of every month)
    • Appointments and resignations report (before the 27th of every month)
    • Commercial asset register (update before the 1st of every month)
    • Month-end payroll report (needs to be completed as per the monthly deadline)
    • Industrial relations (IR) reports with disciplinary actions taken or to be taken
    • Provide the correct information to the data department, for the latter to set up new accounts on the reporting platform and verify all company information
    • Scan and upload all client and employee documentation on Insync

    SHEQ responsibilities

    • Ensure that staff have the correct PPE as per the company policy and site requirements
    • Ensure that staff is trained regarding SHEQ regulations, policies and procedures per site
    • Ensure that each site’s SHEQ file is updated and correct
    • Ensure that all staff have been trained on sites where dangerous equipment / goods and products are used
    • Manage incidents and accidents as per company policy and procedures
    • Responsible for ensuring that all sites comply with the SHEQ policies of the company and the client
    • Responsible for upholding the SHEQ initiatives as set out in the company SHEQ policy

    Requirements

    • Minimum Grade 12, tertiary qualification is an advantage
    • Experience in the waste management or recycling industry
    • Valid driver’s license

    Weighbridge Operator - CPT

     

    Job Summary 

    • Responsible for safe and productive operating of the weighbridge machine allocated.

    Responsibilities
    Productivity and profitable workflow

    • Responsible to achieve maximum productivity from equipment
    • Responsible to keep maintenance costs of equipment as low as possible
    • Responsible to report low levels of consumables

    SHEQ

    • Responsible for maintaining SHEQ standards around weighbridges, this includes safely directing traffic in case of congestion
    • Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping standards around weighbridges
    • Never allow anyone that is not properly qualified to operate the equipment
    • Responsible for keeping management informed about the condition of the weighbridge
    • Remind management that the weighbridge must be calibrated at specified intervals
    • Keep copies of calibration certificates for perusal upon request, original to be kept by management

    Maintenance

    • Responsible for filling in equipment checklists as per specific requirements
    • Responsible to report any malfunctions or breakdowns
    • Advise management immediately when a breakdown occurs
    • Responsible for basic maintenance of machinery
    • Responsible to keep machinery and workstations clean and tidy

      Attendance

    • Operators are required to be reliable and add value to the team
    • Operators will be monitored closely for absenteeism 

    Record keeping

    • Ensure that production records are filed and submitted regularly
    • Operators are expected to keep a diary
    • Responsible for accurate data capturing
    • Ensure that you are qualified and certified to operate the equipment
    • Ensure that any data required is captured before operating machinery
    • To record daily tasks and any maintenance done on the machines

    Requirements

    • Operating experience dependant on type of machine to be operated
    • Minimum 1 year working experience in a similar role
    • Literate, able to fill in diary and reports
    • Qualification to operate specific machinery
