    Lecturer: Afrikaans

    Purpose

    Deliver teaching and learning of the relevant subjects in the Department and conduct research in a relevant field of specialty. Participate in academic administration and subject management, Undertake curriculum and programme development, Supervise and mentor students. Undertake community engagement activities related to teaching and research in the discipline.

    Minimum Requirements 

    • Master's degree in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics or Literature).
    • Show evidence of registration for a doctorate/PhD.
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant research and lecturing experience at a Higher Education institution.

    Recommendations

    • A PhD in Afrikaans (Language/Linguistics or Literature) or show evidence of registration for a doctorate/PhD. Preferably a candidate with experience in online/blended teaching.
    • Experience in programme and curriculum development/review.
    • Good interpersonal skills, communication and computer skills, good organisational and planning skills.
    • Hold an NRF rating OR demonstrate potential for obtaining and NRF rating within the next five 5 years.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Expected to teach undergraduate and post graduate modules.
    • Teaching of relevant subject content
    • Compile work schemes in collaboration with colleagues
    • Research and utilize new and emerging approaches and technology in teaching
    • The professional preparation of teaching media
    • The professional preparation of notes to supplement or substitute prescribed textbooks
    • Research and selection of suitable reference material to
    • supplement textbooks
    • The facilitation of an effective teaching situation in which the learning experience can take place successfully
    • The upgrading of course content and/or development of new courses and/or modules in order to keep up with the latest requirements of the discipline
    • Student and peer evaluations of teaching performance
    • Apply appropriate assessment methods
    • External examining and invitations to teach externally
    • Act as a study leader
    • Conduct appropriate research
    • Publish research results
    • Keep abreast of professional literature
    • Contribute to community engagement initiatives
    • Integrate community engagement interventions into curriculum
    • Report on own involvement in professional, industry and/or community activities
    • Contributes to curriculum development
    • Participate in curriculum review to ensure alignment with sector/discipline norms and requirements
    • Review assessment methods
    • Identify students at risk timeously
    • Develop intervention strategies
    • Provide counselling to students

    • Present research study papers at conferences
    • Develop relevant reports as and when required

    Director: Teaching And Learning And Programme Development (Re - Advertised)

    Purpose
    The purpose of this position is to lead, manage and drive the implementation of the strategy for the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Programme Development (CTLPD) and grow a vibrant teaching and learning culture at the University. Further responsibilities include people management, budget and financial management and health and safety management.

    Minimum Requirements

    • PhD/Doctoral degree NQF 10 in Higher Education Teaching and Learning 
    • At least 10 years of experience in higher education institutions 
    • Academic and professional standing in the field of expertise, and high academic credibility amongst peers 
    • At least 5 years’ management experience including supervision of staff, budgets, and processes. 
    • A thorough understanding of following a higher education environment  
      • Teaching and student learning  
      • Academic Student Support 
      • Quality Assurance 
      • Career path development support 
    • Experience in data analytics. 
    • Experience in developing and managing stakeholder relationships. 
    • The ability to work under pressure and manage a complex set of concurrent tasks. 
    • Project management experience 
    • Computer skills (MS Office suite) 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Actively support the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the achievement of the University Teaching, Learning and Programme Development strategic objectives 
    • Support and guide the following portfolios: 
      • Leadership and planning in the areas of teaching development, student academic development, learning technology, and research  
      • Interacting with external partners, including government, local and international universities, alumni, business and local communities, and donors (fundraising) 
      • Quality assurance and enhancement 
      • Risk management. 
    • Oversee the use of data analytics to make informed decisions concerning teaching and learning. 
    • Development of Academic Staff Competencies in Pedagogics and Teaching Methodologies 
    • Establish and enhance e-learning capabilities among academic staff and students 
    • Curriculum development, review, renewal & transformation and Evaluation of learning, teaching & assessment events 
    • Strengthen the structures, strategies, processes, and programmes that facilitate academic support for students 
    • Strengthen the structures, strategies, processes, and programmes that facilitate career capacity development and enhancement for academic staff 
    • Policy and Procedure Development 
    • Implementation of the quality assurance standards/ measures to meet both internally set standards and the requirements of external bodies.  
    • Review structures for their appropriateness to assist the CTLPD in achieving its strategic priorities. 
    • Develop the department’s Budget and provide sound financial management. 
    • Drives the effective implementation of administrative systems.
