    Word Processing Operator

    Job Purpose    
    To undertake word processing and general administration functions according to Council/Departmental procedures/standards to the benefit of the Department and Public at large.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Undertakes typing (copy and dictaphone typing), capturing and processing minutes of meetings and departmental disciplinary hearings, departmental forms, invoices and payment vouchers and various spreadsheets. 
    • Types, captures and processes general correspondence, i.e. letters to the public, other Council Departments, internal departmental memorandums and private institutions.
    • Attends to the public, uniformed and civilian personnel matters including queries or complaints.
    • Interacts and discusses all relevant word processing matters with supervisor by providing necessary inputs.
    • Ensures the safety of electronic equipment/ computer, stationery, furniture etc. entrusted to the position. 
    • Undertakes related assignments.

    • Appropriate level of secondary education.

    Deputy Head (Climate Change)

    Job Purpose    

    • To align municipal frameworks, bylaws, policies, strategies and plans to international, national and provincial climate change and climate change related legislation and policy. To design and implement relevant climate change management systems aimed at achieving temperature increases of below 2°C pre industrial level, protection of human life, public and private infrastructure, water security, food security, health and sea-level rise against the anticipated climate change that the eThekwini Municipal Area will experience and strategic implementation of projects to meet the above.

    This post reports to HEAD: DEVELOPMENT PLANNING, ENVIRONMENT AND MANAGEMENT

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Aligning departmental functional areas to the broader unit and municipal objectives.
    • Directs and controls outcomes associated with utilisation, productivity and performance of personnel within the department.
    • Prepares capital and operating estimates and controls expenditure against the approved budget allocations.
    • Undertakes the strategic planning of eThekwini Municipality’s (EM) climate change and related functions.
    • Directs the managers within the department in the appropriate implementation of climate change and related-focused planning, implementation and management systems.
    • Ensures the implementation of the National and Provincial climate change related regulations and related legislation.
    • Contributes to the preparation and implementation of the climate change components of the Municipality’s planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems.
    • Integrating climate change principles into strategic plans and frameworks.
    • Convenes, chairs and ensures effective functioning of the Durban climate change technical task team and provides strategic direction for the Municipal climate change committee.
    • Manages and controls project implementation processes identified within key programme areas.
    • Develops and strategically manages the on-going implementation of research platforms, mechanisms and partnerships that seek to entrench eThekwini Municipality’s position as a local, national and international thought leader in climate change.
    • Disseminates strategic and functional information on immediate, short and long term objectives and current applications and constraints.
    • Liaises with stakeholders and officials concerned with climate change matters including international bodies, national and provincial governments, metropolitan and local authorities, consultants, non-governmental organisations, community based organisations business and industry and labour.
    • Controls and executes actions to address administrative and reporting requirements associated with the key performance and result indicators of the functionality.
    • Assists support committees and other Units in implementing climate change and related policies and legislation.

    Essential Requirements    

    • Relevant Masters Degree qualification (NQF Level 9).
    • Valid motor vehicle driving license.
    • 7 Years’ experience at a management level of which at least 2 years must be at a senior management level.

    Preferred Requirements    

    • Relevant PhD Degree qualification (NQF Level 10).
    • 10 Years’ experience at a management level of which at least 5 years must be at a senior management level.

    Job Purpose    

    • To provide a service to the office staff,and to assist the Customer Service Officers when inspecting and testing installations.

    • Undertakes photostating of documents for the division.

    Job Purpose    

    • To conduct an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve the organisation's operations by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes across the Municipality. 

    This post reports to SENIOR MANAGER (FINANCIAL AUDITING)

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Provides an internal financial auditing service throughout the Municipality.
    • Provides integrated value for money on assurance of programmes and projects through continuous auditing.
    • Prepares an audit plan that presents the need for effectiveness of audit projects and related interventions through project management principles.
    • Applies professional knowledge based on audit methodology to the arrived scope of the audit, taking into account client needs.
    • Manages project execution processes associated with the implementation, monitoring and communication phases of audit projects.
    • Participates as a contributing member of audit teams and delivers specific team outputs.
    • Keeps abreast of new developments and techniques in the Audit profession.
    • Provides administrative support to the Senior Audit Management.
    • Reporting on audit findings to ensure that management is fully apprised of the implications of the audit findings and recommendations.
    • Training and coaching stakeholders affected by the project and its scope, providing the
    • necessary guidelines and support in terms of clarification, explanation and examples relating to impacting issues.

    Job Purpose    

    • Applies technical engineering procedures and applications associated with the provision of information and guidance, formulation and development and/ or draughting of plans, proposals and designs.

    Electrical Assistant

    Job Purpose    

    • To perform tasks and activities associated with construction, general maintenance and repair work to electrical infrastructure.

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Undertakes the operation of equipment and general labouring tasks as directed.
    • Prepares tools and materials for use by the Supervisor, keeping them ready for tasks at hand and attends to the preparation of the work site.
    • Undertakes the loading, coupling and de-coupling of trailers, compressors and other relevant equipment to vehicles for towing purposes.
    • Checks the operating condition, connecting and starting equipment and machinery in accordance with standard reporting procedures and reports deviations to the Supervisor.
    • Performs the physical installation, positioning of electrical equipment and installation and removal of meters/ready boards.
    • Inspects work sites services for suspected tampering and illegal connections in conjunction with the Supervisor.
    • Cleans work sites, store equipment and tools and load materials prior to departure from work site.
    • Complies with safety standards and ensures a safe working environment.

    Handyman (Ebs)

    Job Purpose    

    • To perform tasks associated with the execution of electrical apparatus repairs in the Electrical Building Services Maintenance Section. 

    Key Responsibility Areas    

    • Replaces and repairs lamps and ballasts on plug-in and isolated fittings, plug sockets on trunking and plug tops and cords to electrical appliances.
    • Repairs electrical apparatus (e.g. urns, hot plates, kettles and geysers) and ensure that the apparatus is in working order.
    • Undertakes the making up of extension cables.
    • Undertakes stock checks when necessary and prepares requisitions for replacement stock.
    • Assumes responsibility for vehicle and contents and driving to relevant job sites to carry out duties.
    • Undertakes minor fault finding to determine problem areas.
    • Undertakes the supervision of staff.
    • Contributes to the maintenance and improvement of the safety performance of the Electrical Branch.
