    Junior Maintenance Officer - Department of TuksSport

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Preparation and maintenance of TuksSport facilities for sporting events and junior programmes;
    • Safekeeping and administration of sports equipment, furniture and inventory;

    Database Officer - Department of TuksSport

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Management of TuksSport database systems including the club’s membership system;
    • Development of effective administrative systems and processes for TuksSport;
    • Collation of information, queries, and complaints received at the Client Services Desk;
    • Providing administrative management support to the Deputy Director of Enterprise and Services including diary management, secretarial support, and meeting preparations.

    Lecturer - Department of Chemical Engineering

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    It will be expected of the successful candidate to:

    • Teach core modules in chemical engineering (e.g. Materials & energy balance, transport phenemona, process synthesis and analysis, chemical engineering design, environmental safety engineering, etc) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department;
    • Supervise final year undergraduate BEng project students, BEngHons/BScHons students;
    • Supervise masters and doctoral students if already holding a PhD degree.
    • Be actively involved in a research group/unit focusing on the application of concepts of chemical/process engineering in sustainable environment and water utilisation processes/sustainable and efficient energy processes/ advanced and applied materials/process design and optimisation and publish in leading accredited journals in the field;
    • Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies and industry to support his/her research activities and that of the group he/she associates with;
    • Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
    • Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Lecturer

    • A BEng/BScEng degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline from a university of which the undergraduate programme is registrable with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA);
    • A Masters’ degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline that follows on the previous qualification;
    • Research experience in chemical engineering, in particular in application of concepts of chemical/process engineering in sustainable environment and water utilisation processes/sustainable and efficient energy processes/ advanced and applied materials/process design and optimisation;
    • Publications in accredited journals or conferences;
    • Industry related experience within the field.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Evidence of teaching experience (at least 1 year) in higher institution;
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s needs;
    • Preference will be given to candidates who already hold a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or in a closely related discipline or at the final stage (e.g. 3rd year) of his/her doctoral degree programme in Chemical Engineering or in a closely related discipline

    Director: Student Affairs

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic Management

    • Provide strategic leadership in respect of the Department of the Student Affairs portfolio, covering the areas of Student Development, Student Governance, Student Health, Student Counselling and the Disability Unit), according to the vision, mission, aims and objectives of the University of Pretoria;
    • Conduct continuous short- and medium-term planning to ensure the effective functioning of the Department;
    • Initiate and influence policy at macro and micro levels by providing strategic information to the Vice-Principal: Student Life and relevant entities;
    • Plan and implement innovative co- and extra-curricular programmes and projects to promote student success and wellness; and
    • Contribute towards minimising or eliminating risks that the department and university might be exposed to through proactively taking appropriate and timely steps within the portfolio.

    Operational Management

    • Provide leadership and oversight of operational activities in the following units in the portfolio:
    • Student Development Unit - Oversee and provide leadership with regard to the development, implementation and management of programmes to ensure that extra-curricular activities complement curricular activities, are organized and have specific learning outcomes;
    • Student Governance Unit - Oversee and ensure the alignment of all student governance structures within the framework of principles approved by the Council;
    • Student Health and Services Unit - Provide leadership and oversee the planning and implementation of health education and awareness programmes;
    • Disability Unit - Oversee and ensure that innovative programmes are planned and implemented to advance the student success of students with disabilities; and
    • Student Counselling Unit - Provide leadership and oversee the management, development and implementation of innovative, efficient, pro-active and sustainable models and approaches aimed at providing student mental health and wellness that promote student success.

    Financial Management

    • Compile comprehensive departmental personnel, capital and operational budgets on an annual basis, in consultation with the relevant role-players;
    • Control costs by applying effective control measures, and report at relevant platforms at agreed intervals;
    • Manage departmental budgets and funds according to University policies; and
    • Raising funds for student affairs activities, including entrepreneurial initiatives for the department.

    Human Resources Management

    • Manage the Human Resources portfolio in the department according to the University's policies and guidelines;
    • Manage and maintain an effective performance management system to develop and enhance the performance of individuals, teams and the division, thus contributing to the performance of the entire department; and
    • Guide decision-making and establish clear delegations and authority.

    Administrative Management

    • Oversee the administrative functions of the department and ensure that resources and equipment are efficiently and effectively utilised.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A relevant PhD degree;
    • A total of 10 years relevant experience in dealing with student affairs and related areas, including at least 5 years management experience, in a higher education institution;
    • Experience in student development, student health and wellness management. This should include the following key components:
    • Strategic leadership and management;
    • National and global trends in higher education and implications for student affairs;
    • Holistic development of undergraduate students;
    • The challenges facing students enrolled in higher education programmes;
    • Student governance structures;
    • Working with students from diverse backgrounds, including leadership development;
    • Working knowledge and understanding of the needs of Students with Disabilities;
    • The development and implementation of extra-curricular initiatives to complement curricular and co-curricular activities;
    • Broad financial principles and practises related to students' budget management skills; and
    • Human Resources and Administrative Management, e.g. supervision, mentoring, etc.
    • A valid driver’s licence.

    The incumbent will assist the Co-ordinator with the effective and efficient handling of student administrative affairs in the Student Administration office of the faculty with specific reference to:

    Project Manager: Publications - Department of Enrolment and Student Administration

    Job Purpose

    • The purpose of this job is to produce DESA information products in collaboration with faculties and professional services departments, for the undergraduate market. The incumbent will be responsible for the control of information products in line with processes and procedures, as well as for the finalisation of products with external service providers.

    Responsibilities

    The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    Strategic planning and stakeholder relationship management:

    • Provide strategic inputs on the identification of product development for recruitment material;
    • Give input on the production planning for recruitment material;
    • Coordinate, plan and present meetings with both external and internal stakeholders;
    • Compile project plans and distribute them;
    • Complete all administrative processes relating to projects (e.g. Minutes, agenda, weekly targets, etc.);
    • Engage with stakeholders to facilitate project completion and to identify challenges;
    • Address and resolve project challenges once identified;
    • Communicate and implement changes relating to products;
    • Develop training manuals;
    • Organise and facilitate an annual publication workshop with all stakeholders;

    Manage the DESA publication process:

    • Compile a detailed production schedule for all publications for all undergraduate recruitment information products (both programmes and recruitment product);
    • Coordinate the activities of the various internal and external role players in the production of the information products;
    • Organise production teams and delegate project management responsibilities to faculty and professional service departments to achieve set objectives;
    • Ensure planning of resources and affordability factors;
    • Monitor and track the progress of the publication process;
    • Keep records of all projects and their progress;
    • Compile and submit reports on the projects to management;
    • Research and utilise technology in line with current and new trends;

    Quality control and sign-off:

    • Evaluate and monitor the correctness of product information;
    • Adhere to the branding guidelines of UP;
    • Distribute proof prints to stakeholders of faculties and departments for sign-off prior to printing;
    • Complete final sign-off on all information products as per project scope;
    • Keep record of all processes and version control of product development;

    Distribution of DESA information products:

    • Develop a distribution schedule;
    • Facilitate the arrangements for deliveries to stakeholders;
    • Oversee the printing schedule and follow up with printers;
    • Keep record of all deliveries;

    Financial management:

    • Apply financial control mechanisms regarding UP policy requirements;
    • Acquire and submit comparative quotations as per policy for publication products;
    • Acquire approval before proceeding with printing of information products;
    • Manage publication budgets and submit reports management.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in languages, with specialisation in English; OR
    • BEd with specialisation in English; OR
    • B Communication Science; OR
    • B Information Management; OR
    • BIS (Publishing, Information Design, Publication Management or Multimedia)

    WITH

    Five years’ experience in:

    • Relevant publication management;
    • Managing group projects;
    • Product design.

    Responsibilities

    • The incumbent will be expected to fulfil the duties of a Lecturer / Senior Lecturerin the Department: Education Management and Policy Studies as described in the minimum requirements.

    These Duties Include

    • Evidence of coordination responsibilities and membership of committees.
    • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programmes
    • Conduct own research, research projects and evidence of at least 5 publications in accredited journals or an average of 1 article per year for the last 3 years in such journals, or equivalent outputs
    • Evidence of successful Masters and Doctoral supervision
