    Underwriting Team Leader

    Description

    • You will be responsible for actively supporting and enforcing the operational goals, policies and procedures as well as managing a team of consultants. You need to ensure that your team is performing against targets and that you are motivating them to do so.
    • You will spend time delegating tasks, negotiating workload and reporting on developments. Your role is to share your knowledge and skills with members and assist other team members with the support that they need in order to perform the functions of the team.
    • You need to ensure that policies are allocated out of the pool in a timely manner as set out in the SLA between the underwriting and sales department.
    • You must always keep the wellbeing of your team members and company at hand when making decisions.
    • As a team leader you need to have your eyes and ears on the ground and always pay attention to what your team members ‘needs

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

    • To follow and execute instructions, policies and procedures pertaining to the area of responsibility
    • To hold team members accountable, on agreed processes and targets
    • Ensure the underwriting pool times are maintained
    • Daily, weekly and monthly reporting of team performance – inclusive of problem areas.
    • Performance management of team
    • Reporting to management of developments within the team
    • Identify functions / practices areas that require improvement
    • Identify and initiate solutions to challenges in the area of responsibility
    • Manage team productivity and discipline – amongst others, time and leave management
    • Develop and drive a culture of excellence and discipline
    • Provide training and coaching for team members
    • Audit and take corrective action, where processes are not accurately followed
    • Handle departmental complaints, as and when raised
    • Ensure that the performance of the team is of a high standard
    • Responsible for training and developing individuals within the team.

    Requirements

    PERSON SPECIFICATION – (Qualification, Experience, Knowledge & Skill)

    • Minimum 2 years experience in Short term Insurance
    • Knowledge in short-term insurance underwriting - preferred
    • Meet fit and proper requirements. (150 Credits, RE)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Quality Focus

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Must be proficient with keyboard and IT applications
    • Intermediate level in the use of Outlook
    • Intermediate level in the use of Word and Excel
