    Technician: Senior Generator Specialist - Midrand

    Job Description

    • A career opportunity has arisen in the Technical Bakery Department – Premier FMCG – Waterfall.  This position is responsible to diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair generator and alternator systems, both mechanically and electrically. 

    Qualification Requirements    

    • Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
    • 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience working with generator sets, with expertise in both mechanical and electrical systems.
    • Strong knowledge and experience in fault finding and servicing of generators and alternators.
    • Proficiency in diesel mechanics and electrical systems related to generators and alternators.
    • Experience with load testing and performance verification.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and electrical schematics.
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Relevant certifications or trade qualifications in generator maintenance, diesel mechanics, and electrical systems are preferred.

    Experience Requirements    

    • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience specifically in generator sets and alternators.
    • Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing both mechanical and electrical issues.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Availability to travel to our sites located within South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique.
    • Flexibility to be on standby and respond to breakdowns outside of regular service schedules.

    Key Outputs    

    • Conduct regular inspections and routine maintenance of generator sets.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot generator and alternator issues, both mechanical and electrical, with a synergy between diesel mechanic and electrician skills.
    • Repair and replace generator and alternator parts as needed.
    • Perform load testing and verify generator and alternator performance.
    • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
    • Collaborate with other technicians, Maintenance Managers, and departments to coordinate generator-related activities.
    • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
    • Train and mentor.
    • Be on standby and available to assist with breakdowns apart from the normal planned service schedules.
