POSITION: Supervisor Employee Relations
JOB GRADING: C-Upper
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
Minimum Requirements:
Be in possession of a Grade 12/N3 Qualification or Equivalent.
Be in possession of an appropriate formal Legal Qualification with a strong IR knowledge/experience.
Admitted attorney.
Have a minimum of 5 years appropriate Legal/IR/ER experience.
Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment.
Key Competencies:
Have sound Interpersonal relations and good communication skills.
Have sound knowledge and experience in an IR/ER role within and Organized Labour environment.
Knowledge of human resources functions and best practice.
Exposure to the CCMA processes and a successful track record of CCMA cases.
Proven time management and effectively meeting deadlines abilities.
Must be an articulate & persuasive communicator.
Excellent writing, research and communication skills.
Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Advanced Computer Literacy and advanced proficiency in MS Office / Excel.
Track record of advising line managers.
Experience of working with different cultures / geographies.
Demonstrated experience in IR/ER in a mining / manufacturing / construction environment.
Strong presentation and report development skills.
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple deliverables.
Be customer service focused.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional advice, guidance, and coaching to HR and Line Managers on employee relations related issues & processes.
Interpretation of company policies and procedures.
Conduct investigations and identify solutions to complex ER issues and facilitate the resolution of conflict through formal and informal grievances process.
Represent company at CCMA cases.
Risk Management and Compliance.
Ensure compliance to ER processes and relevant Labour legislation.
To develop sound employee and management relationships (Labour relations).
Build constructive relationships between employees and employer. Inform and advise the business as required in terms of trends.
Monitoring performance indicators, such as absenteeism levels, grievances levels, disciplinary processes, employee wellbeing matters.
Tracking, reporting and analyzing ER issues/trends to inform an approach in our ER strategy and processes.
Providing independent support and influence to managers and employees in helping to resolve disciplinary and other employee grievances.
Providing accurate and timely data analysis on allocated projects or regular reports that support the decision making process.
Providing people leadership within the department by managing workload, assigning tasks and reviewing / recognizing outputs of team members.
Promoting cross-functional working relationships, incorporating a true “team spirit” with mutual support to meet the Mine's objectives.
