    Senior Manager: Sustainable Product Development

    Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
    Sustainability is at the core of MTN’s business strategy. MTN is looking for a result-oriented, out of the box thinker and innovative value creator to lead MTN’s strategic efforts to create value by integrate sustainability into new product and services and develop new range of ESG based products and services across MTN’s operations.

    Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)

    • The Group Senior Manager: Sustainable Product Development will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
    • Implement the Group’s Sustainable Product Development strategies, policies, and procedures in line with MTN’s Sustainability and Shared value ambitions across MTN’s 19 markets.
    • Understand customer & stakeholder needs and requirements for sustainability/ESG in products & services and develop MTN’s response across MTN’s footprint.
    • Develop & implement group wide ESG based Customer Rewards Programme entrenched across MTN’s platform businesses globally working closely with business areas.
    • Ensure products & services delivered by MTN meet sustainability/ environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements across MTN’s markets.
    • Entrench Shared Value model into the organisation’s operating model and product development across the organisation.
    • Support in the identification and co-creation of ESG and social impact related programmes and partnerships (e.g., Internet of Things, e-education, etc) to the benefit of MTN’s 19 markets.
    • Maintain detailed financial analyses of ESG related products & services suite and contribution towards MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy and bottom line.
    • Achieve relevant financial and non-financial targets related to Sustainable Product Development globally.
    • Support in the development of business cases and Social Return on Investment indicators to enable MTN to access Sustainability Bonds working closely with Group Finance to scale up MTN’s Sustainability and Sustainable Product Development efforts across MTN’s footprint.
    • Set minimum requirements to understand and meet in terms of Product Sustainability and ensure appropriate governance structures are in place around this across the organisation.
    • Work collaboratively with the Group’s business and functional areas to ensure cross-product and cross-business opportunities are realised.
    • Take responsibility for assessing, monitoring, and mitigating Product Sustainability risks for the entire Group.
    • Support the Group’s transparency and disclosure efforts on Sustainable Product Development and Shared Value efforts across the company.
    • Collaborate with the company’s functions and businesses to ensure alignment of Sustainable Product Development with the Group’s business planning, capital planning, operational and long-term plans.

    Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

    Education:

    • Degree in Business Development, Product Development, innovation, engineering, or Sustainability related field. Postgraduate degree would be advantageous
    • Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional body as required for role

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
    • Relevant sector, industry, or area of specialisation experience (understanding emerging markets advantageous).
    • Worked across diverse cultures and geographies.
    • Experience working in a medium to large organization would be advantageous.
    • Experience in Business and Product Development.
    • Experience in Project and Financial Management.
    • Skills related to Life-cycle assessment (LCA) and related cradle to grave assessment and relevant sustainable product design tools.
