    NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (MAHIKENG CAMPUS) FACULTY OF ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES SCHOOL OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT VACANCY: SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER PEROMNES GRADE: A7/A8 POSITION NUMBER: M0000562
    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Research and development- Publish in accredited journals, conference proceedings, research mentorship, serve in research committees and bodies
    • Supervision-Post graduate supervision
    • Teaching- Teaching of undergraduate and post graduate students
    • Grant proposal- Sourcing of research grant
    • 3rd stream income- Introduction of 3rd stream income
    • Curriculum development- Course development and curriculum
    • Management and marketing- Assist in the management activities of the school and stakeholder relations

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree and/or have relevant and/or professional, performance or creative works and/or experience (NQF level 9);
    • Post-doctoral (PhD) degree and/or have relevant and/or professional, performance or creative works and/or experience (NQF level 10) in any one of the following fields:
    • Tourism Marketing
    • Tourism development and management
    • Hospitality and hotel management
    • Work integrated learning (WIL) EXPERIENCE
    • Lecturer – 2 years is EssentialCompleted Masters or studying towards a PhD. Relevant work experience in the tourism industry. Relevant work experience in lecturing. Applicants should show evidence of independence and initiative in research, applied or creative works. Sound practical experience to lead students in work integrated learning
    • Senior Lecturer – 2.5 years is Essential Completed Masters or studying towards a PhD. At least 2.5 years’ experience in tertiary/industry level. Has a satisfying record at least on one of the following tourism niche areas: Tourism Marketing, Tourism development and management, hospitality and hotel management. Interest to coordinate WIL. Minimum of two publications in accredited journals. Conference proceedings are added advantage. Proof of independence and initiative in research activities. A good track record of post graduate supervision. In-depth knowledge of tourism. ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES: Functional / Technical Competencies (Knowledge and Skills)
    • Have an in-depth tourism theories and application
    • Good record of post graduate supervision
    • Ability to teach different field of studies in tourism
    • Ability to run 3rd stream income or short courses
    • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing

    Behavioural Competencies

    • Communicate effectively
    • Client oriented
    • Ability to work well as an individual and in a team
    • Have good planning and organising skills
    • Good in time management
    • Able to ensure a high level of professional and ethical conduct.
