Principal Specialist: Group Privacy Operations at Vodafone Global Enterprise

Role purpose:

• Responsible for executing on the Vodacom group privacy operations capability, which includes
• Assessing Vodafone Group privacy requirements/controls; including global processes, products and services;
• Defining Vodacom Group privacy requirements on a localised/customised basis and setting out privacy control strategies/requirements and targets;
• Planning, co-ordinating, and driving the implementation and embedment of privacy program elements/requirements across the Vodacom Group;
• Defining material Vodacom Group privacy legal and compliance requirements, including privacy policy positions addressing topical privacy issues emerging from data protection authorities/regulators/ external bodies across the local markets where the group operates; and
• Defining and assessing the Vodacom group privacy risk and issue profile and exposure.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assessing Vodafone Group privacy requirements/controls
• Includes, assessing Vodafone new privacy program elements and privacy design patterns.
• Defining Vodacom Group privacy requirements on a localised/customised basis and setting out privacy control requirements and targets.
• Includes, defining Vodacom group privacy objectives and goals in line with Vodafone privacy objectives and goals. Moreover, defining Vodacom group intra-company personal data sharing requirements and strategies in line with local market data protection laws and regulations.
• Identify opportunities to leverage off best practice privacy controls in a specific local market that can be adopted and embedded by other local markets within the Vodacom group, therefore minimising duplication, re-work and creating intra-group knowledge sharing and collaboration.
• Planning and co-ordinating the implementation of privacy program elements/requirements across the Vodacom group
• Includes adopting agile or risk-based approaches when planning and co-ordinating these new program elements/requirements across the local markets within the Vodacom group. Therefore, enabling delivery on Vodacom group privacy objectives and goals in line with Vodafone privacy objectives and goals.
• Defining material Vodacom group privacy legal and compliance requirements, including privacy policy positions addressing topical privacy issues emerging from data protection authorities/regulators across the Group and other external bodies.
• Defining and assessing the Vodacom group privacy risk and issue profile and exposure.
• Includes the material privacy compliance risks and issues emerging from the local markets impacting the Vodacom group and assisting in setting out mitigation and remediation strategies for these privacy risks and issues.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Must have technical / professional qualifications:

• Strong educational background in a relevant field such as Legal/Compliance/Risk degree or privacy-related disciplines (NQF 7 equivalent).
• Additional professional relevant certification will be an advantage such as CIPP/E, CIPT, or CIPM from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

A minimum of 8 years relevant experience, with exposure to the following:

• Legal, risk and compliance focusing on privacy compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
• Ability to build relationships and influence senior leaders within an organisation.
• Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
• Excellent reporting and presentation skills
• Experience in fulling the role/duties of the Data Privacy/Protection Officer across multiple jurisdictions.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• Ability to plan and co-ordinate the implementation of privacy program elements and requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Risk & Compliance
• Ability to identify, assess and report material privacy risks and issues impacting the Vodacom group and providing direction regarding mitigating and/or remediation actions in conjunction with the Vodacom group privacy functions in the various local markets.
• A subject matter expert in privacy law and requirements across Africa
• Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations across Africa, relevant to the Vodacom group and its application in a business environment.
• Ability to identify material privacy topics and issues emerging in the data privacy landscape across Africa and responses to these topics and issues.
• Business Skills & Stakeholder Management
• Excellent stakeholder management skills across all levels of the organisation and across multiple jurisdictions. Collaborate with, and influence privacy leaders in the Vodacom group on new privacy program elements and designs.
• Ability to develop awareness and a culture of privacy across VSA
• Experience in partnering with Senior Management in the embedment of privacy controls and mitigating and remediation of privacy risks and issues.
• Creating an environment for the rollout of privacy awareness and training initiatives.
