    Payroll Officer

    Job Purpose    

    • Bidvest International Logistics is looking to appoint a Payroll Officer to be based at our head office in Greenstone, Johannesburg.
    • The successful encumbent will manage, direct, control and process the divisional payroll and all other payroll related duties.
    • The person should have excellent organizational skills and have the ability to work under pressure and independently. The Payroll Officer must ensure that the WSS function, processing of employee benefits in SAGE 300 payroll as well as ensure the administration of leave and overtime is maintained in accordance with prescribed standards.

    Qualifications & Experience    

    • Must have +5 years working experience in a payroll/financial role                                
    • Must have working knowledge on SAGE 300 People payroll software.                                
    • Proven working knowledge and experience with Medical Aid Schemes and Retirement Funds                                
    • Proven working knowledge and experience of payroll and accounting practices and principals                                
    • Proven working knowledge and experience with BCEA, Income Tax Act, LRA and COIDA acts                                
    • Intermediate / Advanced Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel and Outlook Skills                                
    • NBCRFLI Council knowledge and experience                                

    Key Responsibilities    

    • Payroll Processing and Administration for the division.                                
    • Ensure Retirement Fund withdrawals has been updated on the fund site.                                
    • Action all 3rd Party changes on system.                                
    • Print and circulate/courier manual payslips.                                
    • Monthly Reporting                                
    • Weekly Ad hoc preparations                                
    • Prepare UI19 & UI2.7 for maternity leave and terminated employees                                
    • Assist Auditors with queries related to Payroll                                
    • Attend to any query re: leave balances & leave transactions from employees                                
    • Monitor leave balances for forfeit leave and inform relevant divisions.                                
    • Follow up on unapproved claims and leave transactions in the workflow.                                
    • Extract leave reports on request.                                
    • Process any changes submitted by HR/Employee Benefit Administrator to Payroll for medical aid and provident / pension fund in SAGE 300 People (new additions, cancellations / terminations)                                
    • Prepare Payment Vouchers for Terminated employees or any special payments.                                
    • Process changes on Alexander Forbes website (withdrawal claims etc)                                

    Skills & Competencies    
    Knowledge:  

    • Understanding of employee benefit options and relevant regulations (Pension Fund Act, Medical Scheme Act)                            
    • Payroll tax legislation impacting payroll                                
    • Working knowledge and clear understanding of legislation relevant to earnings and benefits                                
    • Must possess a good understanding of accounting concepts, the ability to produce accounting reconciliations, reports and compile accounting journals.
