Duties & responsibilities

•  Design layouts as part of a creative art team, working on the main weekly publication as well as other platforms, including special interest magazines.
•  Work closely with the editorial team to ensure that visuals support and enhance the story for a cohesive overall design
•  Work within tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of work
•  Conduct final checks on layouts and export layouts to print ready PDFs
•  Assist the art director on any other aspects of the magazine layout and design, such as briefing, retouching, making PDFs and liaising with the factory
•  Ensure publication complies visually and in design with international standards.

Skills & competencies

•  Tertiary qualification in graphic design
•  At least five years’ experience in production and layout with a portfolio of relevant work
•  Be curious about design and visual storytelling
•  Show a keen interest in understanding the target market of the publication
•  Proficiency in relevant computer packages and design software – InDesign knowledge is a must
•  Be able to communicate effectively – verbally and on email where required
•  Display a high level of creativity and have a solutions-based approach to tricky designs
•  Be keen to work as part of a team, working under extreme pressure and with intense deadlines
•  Be flexible, adaptable, and able to work on various projects related to the brand as and when required
•  Be willing to work late.
