    Junior Lecturer (P002950)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    To fill a vacant position in the Creative Arts for Education subject group to ensure quality teaching and learning, to expand the subject group’s research profile, and to expand community engagement.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and learning

    • Lecturing Creative Arts (Music and Visual Art) and Music modules at undergraduate level.
    • Travel between Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark campuses on a weekly basis to teach on both campuses.
    • Managing teaching, learning and assessment processes on contact and distance modes of delivery.
    • Ability to use online teaching and learning platforms to promote meaningful learning.
    • Ability to design authentic assignments
    • Contribute to programme, curriculum and study material development in the Creative Arts for Education subject group.

    Research and innovation

    • Contribute to scholarly research by pursuing postgraduate studies, publishing and presenting at conferences on key topics related to Creative Arts.

    Community engagement

    • Participate in and initiate community engagement projects related to Creative Arts Education

    Administration

    • Perform general administration tasks at the programme and module level, including serving on committees.

    Minimum requirements

    • A BA honours degree (NQF level 8) in Music with Music Education or Community Music.
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching experience in music education at secondary or tertiary level and/or teaching in community music education programmes and projects. 

    ADDED ADVANTAGE

    • Accreditation with education and music-related professional bodies. 

    FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)

    • Registering for and completing a Master’s degree and/or PhD within a reasonable period.
    • Proficiency to teach both music and arts education as part of Creative Arts and Life Skills.
    • Knowledge of key theories and teaching strategies in Creative Arts education.
    • Competence in the use of various teaching, learning and assessment methodologies in Creative Arts Education.
    • Experience in community music or art projects
    • Commitment towards furthering own scholarship and research.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in multilingual environments

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

    • Efficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective time-management skills. 
    • Computer literacy (MS Office, Excel, knowledge about cloud storage) and knowledge about ICT.
    • Ability to teach large classes in both contact and distance modes of delivery.
