    Instr & Control Engineer II (CCII)

    Short Description / Purpose of Job

    • The role being fulfilled by this position is primarily from a subject matter expert in operational technology perspective. It involves designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes. This is mainly focussed on lead engineering role for DCS Refresh projects and a supporting role for ad-hoc operational technology (OT) scope in other projects. Participating in the instrumentation and production fraternities to ensure plant availability and efficient operation. Assisting the various businesses units in ad-hoc RCAs, confirmation studies for adherence to best practises, specifications and procedures. The technical and project tracks on a day-to-day basis to ensure correct resource allocation of time, cost, quality, scope, risk, and benefits that indicate timeous resourcing needs towards the execution of projects and support to operations

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    • Ensure correct resource allocation and indicate timeously resourcing needs towards the execution of projects and support to operations.
    • Ensure critical competency development.
    • Manage the relationship with internal and external service providers applicable to function/discipline.
    • Maintain work standards.
    • Maintain discipline specific systems, tools, policies and procedures for the execution of projects.
    • Ensure adherence and compliance to Sasol safety system and culture.
    • Ensure that job specific knowledge in all areas of process control, process automation systems and instrumentation including critical control information infrastructure by self-development and attending training as and when required.
    • Ensure expert knowledge on area specific equipment in area of responsibility for e.g. transmitters and control valves to be able to maximise availability and production outputs.
    • Ensure good working relationship with all stake holders especially with the instrumentation and control fraternity as well as plant production and maintenance personnel.
    • Liaise with external engineering companies to share in knowledge and benchmark on best practices.
    • Provide plant support as and when required.
    • Perform trip and alarm testing.
    • Change range and trip settings on process automation systems.
    • Configure transmitters using AMS, FDM/HART communicator.
    • Change range and calibration of instruments on process automation systems.
    • Plan resources against short- and long-term objectives.
    • Drive effective resource allocation and utilisation.
    • Ensure compliance with legal requirements, Sasol policies and standards.
    • Record and incorporate lessons learnt per project.
    • Report on budget utilisation, forecasting and changes.
    • Manage discipline specific project tasks.
    • Perform quality control of delivered services.
    • Review Sasol policies for applicability and implementation.
    • Develop deviation concessions and concession registers to Sasol specifications for small project execution.
    • Govern proposed modifications.
    • Take responsibility to drive initiatives which improves delivery and competitiveness.
    • Drive high performance culture and innovative thinking.
    • Ensure critical competencies are developed.
    • Develop technical and engineering skills of EIT's through coaching.
    • Manage and develop people in the team.

    • Oversee the management of external service providers.
    • Maintain healthy and stable relationships with contractors and consultants.
    • Oversee the safety of external service providers.

    Formal Education

    • B Eng / BSc Eng Electronic or Computer Engineering

    Min Experience

    • 5+ relevant years
