Greenhouse Plant Attendant - Somerset West at AECI Limited

Job Description    

Greenhouses

• Execute greenhouse activities under the guidance of the Greenhouse Team Leader – inclusive of but not limited to watering of planted crates, cutting foliage off, rejuvenation of crates, transportation of crates, monitoring and clearing of irrigation nozzles to ensure proper functioning, record keeping of planting dates and Mycorrhizae species in greenhouses, scouting for insects and plant diseases, crop protection spray, crop nutrition spray, rodent/pest control, weed control and minor maintenance.

Monitor climatic environment inside greenhouses and control as far as possible.

Maintenance

• Ensure that all greenhouse equipment utilised is kept to a high level of efficiency and report any maintenance related issues to Greenhouse Team Leader.

Housekeeping

• Ensure effective housekeeping is maintained in and around all greenhouses as well as all plants and processes.

Sowing/Harvesting:

• Participate in executing production activities during times of staff shortages or high pressure on Production team including but not limited to harvesting of planting crates, sowing of planting crates and housekeeping in Production area.

Ad hoc Tasks

• Assist Team Leaders in executing trials in greenhouses.

Qualifications & Experience    

• Minimum education Grade 12.
• Minimum of 1 year’s related experience in the same or a similar environment is required.
• Computer literate with basic computer skills
• Possess knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Knowledge of SHEQ Management Systems requirements advantageous

Ability to work under pressure.

• Must be able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment and possess excellent problem solving skills.
• Ability to maintain an acceptable attendance record and punctuality.
• Must possess the ability to follow through, prioritise workload and be able to manage frequently changing priorities.
• Ability to work both independently as well as within a team
• Have a sound knowledge and maintain a “hands on” approach of the plants and processes in the incumbent’s areas of responsibility.
• Shut down plant and processes in a safe manner.
• Respond to hazardous conditions and emergencies.
• Possess the ability to perform in extreme climatic conditions
