General Manager: Investor Relations at MTN

Mission / Core purpose of the Job
The General Manager:

Investor Relations is required to support the implementation of a consistent communication strategy on behalf of MTN, targeting different members of the local and international financial community. This includes supporting the Investor Relations in local listed markets such as MTN Nigeria, MTN Ghana and other markets where MTN has localisations, particularly through listings.
It is a strategic role enabling the most effective two-way communication between MTN and its local and international Investor Relations constituencies (including financial community, debt and equity capital markets, rating agencies and ESG stakeholders), which ultimately contributes to MTN’s securities achieving fair valuation. The role also plays a critical part in the feedback loop to senior management.

Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA's)

• The General Manager: Investor Relations will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
• Advise the Executive: Investor Relations and local executive team and on the potential impact on investors of MTN’s strategy implementation and/or factors such as mergers and acquisitions or dividend changes
• Provide feedback to management regarding the local and international investment community’s perception of how the company is being managed, and their view of its financial results
• Represent the views of the local and international investor community to the management team in the development of corporate strategy
• Support the development and execution of communication plans, aligned to Group Investor Relations, that target different members of the local and international financial community
• Monitor local and international operational changes through ongoing contacts with company management, and develop local and international investor relations messages based on these changes
• Support the planning and execution of high-quality local and international investor events, including quarterly and annual calls, meetings, conferences and roadshows in local and international markets
• Prepare local Market Communication and Releases alignment with overall MTN group messages and results
• Communicate local key messages to ensure a good understanding and appreciation of the company
• Create presentations, press releases and other communication materials for earnings releases, industry events and presentations to analysts, brokers, and investors in local and international markets
• Create targeted local and international initiatives for identified shareholders
• Prepare local senior management to participate in selected analyst conferences
• Coordinate comprehensive and prompt response to local investor queries
• Address and resolve respective Opco queries
• Establish and maintain relationships with local and international Stock Exchange representatives
• Monitor and report performance metrics for the investor relations function in Ghana, Nigeria and other locally-listed OpCo’s
• Perform a comprehensive local and international competitive analysis, including financial metrics and differentiation (local Share price performance, including price, volume, trends in respective markets)
• Track market perceptions about the stock, OpCo strategy in specific markets
• Provide local and international competitive and market insight to management
• Respond and implement contingency and damage control measures in the event of a business crisis or issue that is public in nature in local markets, aligned to Group Investor Relations
• Monitor and disseminate key analyst reports to Executive: Investors Relation and senior management highlighting key points
• Support in the oversight of the production of all annual, interim and quarterly reports, and proxy statements for the local market
• Prepare local regulatory reporting reports and submissions

Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)
Education:

• Minimum of 4-year tertiary degree
• MBA or Masters advantageous
• Relevant certification / accreditation / membership with professional body as required for role
• Fluent in English and language of country preferable

Experience:

• 8 years senior management experience or more; with at least 5 years in Investor Relations
• Strong knowledge of MTN Group and history of the business
• Experience in Stock Exchange reporting and disclosure requirements
• Experience in coordinating integrated reporting
• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
• Experience working in a medium to large organization
• Track record and experience interacting confidently with senior management
• Experience as, or engaging with, sell-side analysts and investors in local and international capital markets
