    GCR Payroll Operate Manager

    Job description

    Our National Tax practice is made up of teams of professionals providing specific tax technical services to African and global clients. The team operates in a technical environment with deep process and service delivery experience that distinguishes EY in the marketplace.

     

    The opportunity

    Our Global Payroll Operate practice focuses on helping our clients effectively manage their global payroll needs proactively and responsibly in 150+ countries. Our quality service and technical network enable you to help clients reduce inefficiencies, mitigate risk and drive process improvement within their payroll functions.     Our market-leading approach combines extensive local payroll service experience with a standard global payroll compliance and implementation methodology. With engagements involving a few countries or many, you will have the opportunity to provide clients an integrated, consistent, quality service that unlocks the potential of the payroll function across the entire process.

     

    Your key responsibilities

    As a Manager in Payroll Operate you will:

    • Help lead new sales & opportunities and oversee the servicing of Multi-Country Payroll Operate (“MCPO”) Services, supervise the design, coordination, transition and operation of global MCPO services for our medium and small clients.

    • Provide timely and high-quality payroll project management focusing on technical and legislative compliance, governance and service management services and work products that exceed client expectations, including regular contact with EY global payroll teams to verify that payroll services are delivered on time and accurately.

    • Review accuracy and correctness and work with offshore processing teams to correct

    • Ensure interpretation and understanding of payroll legislation and application onto client payrolls

    • Be responsible for partnering with the Global Payroll engagement teams to drive Payroll delivery initiatives

     

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Being the lead engagement manager for midsized clients and implementations;

    • Managing global MCPO and SCPO delivery of multiple clients;

    • Managing client escalations and ask/refer to senior team members/partner for help, including completion of root cause analysis as relevant;

    • Accurate and timely service delivery of payroll for our clients.

    • Liasing with the offshore and Africa teams as relevant to deliver on client payrolls

    • Knowing and utilize global methodology payroll best practices;

    • Being involved in thought leadership development;

    • Providing/driving innovation and continuous improvement including implementing new ways of working and/or technological advancements that enhance growth;

    • Leveraging Global Payroll Operate tools, technology, methodology and processes.

    • Monitor and report client delivery metrics as per agreed SLAs;

    • Ensure seamless reporting to clients and follow up for appropriate measures on action items;

    • Driving integration and cross selling across SLs including opportunities to expand revenue and client services (within payroll and in other SLs), negotiating fees and changes in scope

    • To coach, mentor, train and coordinate the activities of the offshore teams;

    • Financially oriented skills to oversee book of business, billings and debtors;

    • Supporting senior managers on their secondary roles in respect of finance, Retain/MERA, QRM, ISAE3402, pipeline, ASQs, BRET and third party contractor management, learning and development; and

    • Initiating and completing the QRM process.

     

    Skills and attributes for success

    Required skills include:

    • Ability to implement centrally managed global outsourcing model, leveraging the global payroll tools to provide clients with greater control, visibility and compliance for their global payroll.

    • Governance of payroll operations: lead the team utilizing one global methodology to track the end-to-end process and provide subsidiary governance throughout our client life cycle to mitigate risk, increase corporate transparency, increase compliance and ensure leveraging of key data insights.

    • Managing, coaching and developing professionals.

    • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills; problem-solving ability and attention to detail.

    • Project management skills.

    • Should be a subject matter expert in understanding the payroll rules and legislations in a multi-country environment and being up to date with current payroll knowledge and legislation.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and client service skills.

     

    To qualify for the role, you should have

    • Bachelor’s degree/equivalent diploma and relevant post-graduate qualification preferably with an emphasis in accounting, business or finance is a strong advantage (This is preferable, not a mandatory requirement).

    • 6+ years of relevant payroll and/or tax experience or equivalent experience in business or industry preferable.

    • Knowledge of technology vendors, such as ADP, PeopleSoft/Oracle, SAP, Workday, and other payroll solutions is an advantage.

    • Strong numbers acumen, including analytical abilities and knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

    • Excellent managerial, organizational and verbal/written communication skills with a proactive approach to problem solving and attention to detail.

    • Client-facing exposure in a payroll role.

    • Project management experience with global or multi-national payrolls.
