    Engineer: Packing & Projects - Malelane

    Job Description    
    RCL FOODS is seeking a qualified and experienced Engineer: Packing & Projects to join their Milling Team at Malelane.

    The purpose of the role will be to:

    • Drive implementation and embedding of world-class practices to optimize project engineering and all equipment on site.
    • Identify and provide improvements to maximize the efficiency and output of all mechanical equipment.
    • Provide specialized mechanical engineering support to the packaging maintenance team to achieve targets.
    • Model Leadership behaviors, collaborating, partnering, and communicating effectively within and between teams and support functions.
    • Promote cross-functional and stakeholder engagement and team work.
    • Lead the effective delivery of project activities linked to the company’s strategic initiatives to ensure projects are delivered on time, in full, and within budget.
    • Provide specialized project support on-site such that it is able to deliver on its operations support and project development work streams, in pursuit of achieving enhanced profitability.
    • Develop and drive improvement projects to ensure current assets are maximized to their full potential.
    • Define project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
    • Engage effectively and collaborate with key suppliers/contractors on site. 
    • Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement throughout operations
    • Adhere to and promote SHERQ & Food Safety standards 

    Minimum Requirements

    Education and Qualification

    • Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
    • Computer literacy

    Experience and Training

    • Experience in maintenance engineering, project engineering and management, operations environment.
    • Experience and knowledge of packaging equipment
    • Experience in conducting & facilitating of root cause analysis (RCA)

    Knowledge and Skill

    • Knowledge of sugar production

    • In-depth knowledge of the OHS Act and other relevant legislations

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Ensure optimal performance of all plant equipment.
    • Drive maintenance improvements to optimise performance of all plant equipment.
    • Provide engineering support to the packaging team in terms of equipment settings from time to time
    • Manage all maintenance work during Season and Off-Crop.
    • Develop Season and Off-Crop maintenance budgets with Packaging and Projects Manager, finance business partner and manage the budgets.
    • Audit and analyse maintenance systems & processes with the aim of uncovering engineering related inefficiencies.
    • Address production losses caused by inefficient engineering systems by critically analysing and maximising the systems performance.  
    • Identify reliability improvements through design modifications and reliability improvement strategies.  
    • Provide expertise on day-to-day Engineering related issues, support and advise on solutions.
    • Provide technical and overall leadership to maintenance personnel.  
    • Provide engineering support for specifications and plant modifications.  
    • Set direction, implement and monitor continuous improvement by driving work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are being applied to
    • Deliver high-quality products made in a safe and sustainable manner.  
    • Conduct regular internal and external benchmarking exercises to identify and develop Maintenance best practices and improvement opportunities.
    • Manage and coordinate sharing of identified best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function across entities and through the Head
    • Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.  
    • Maintain effective engagement with key maintenance & engineering service providers.  
    • Responsible for Safety and Statutory Requirements as delegated by Packaging and Projects Manager.
    • Identify and monitor maintenance KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.  
    • Plan, structure and lead the execution of site improvement projects using appropriate processes and tools.  
    • Identify, generate the business case, motivate, plan and manage implementation of capital projects.  
    • Leverage onsite support from process and engineering optimisation teams to deliver on the project mandate.
    • Coordinate input and develop 5 year manufacturing capital plans, including equipment selection and review.
    • Coordinate development of scope of work, request for quotations, tender evaluations and adjudications of projects.
    • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects, and ensure that all contractors meet SLAs.
    • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.
    • Monitor procurement and escalate roadblocks to management to prevent project delays
    • Measure and report on project performance and expenditure against project budgets using appropriate tools and techniques.  
    • Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
    • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared and communicated to management
    • Ensure resource availability and allocation
    • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
    • Evaluate the work standards and sign off all projects to the original BOQ and agreed project standards as per the contract
    • Ensure all projects are fully integrated into operations and maintenance systems through effective handover
    • Carry out standbys  as per packaging production and technical support requirements
    • Promote and adhere to RCL Food’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
