Associate: Debt Capital Markets at Nedbank

Job Purpose

• This is a front office role within the Debt Capital Markets team, which is part of Investment Banking. The Debt Capital Markets business is focused on originating and implementing debt capital markets finance for sovereign, parastatal and corporate issuers in South African and SSA generally. The team works closely with Investment Banking, Client Coverage, Global Markets and other specialised debt groups internally to originate deals in addition to our targeted clients, other arranging banks, exchanges, platforms and external lawyers to negotiate and close transactions.  Incumbent will predominately focus on the execution of originated deals, the analysis of potential new opportunities, collating relevant market data, preparing market updates and pitch books.

Job Responsibilities

• Meaningfully contribute to the Debt Capital Markets business.
• Contribute to revenue generation by identifying and following through new business opportunities.
• Grow Debt Capital Markets’ business by supporting Principals, building networks, and contribute to developing Nedbank CIB’s brand.
• Assist in preparing marketing presentations and pitches.
• Actively manage and collate market relevant data for pitches and client queries.
• Interpret market developments to help identify issuance opportunities.
• Deal with credit and deal enquires from market participants.
• Monitor market trends by researching and recording market developments, competitor activities and innovation of debt capital markets products and services.
• Contribute to innovation and product development in Investment Banking.
• Grow bank wide profitability by attracting and retaining clients and supporting cross-sell to relevant product areas.
• Manage risks by ensuring compliance with the relevant credit, investment and compliance policies of the bank.
• Identify and mitigate operational risk by implementing controls.
• Build and sustain trusting internal and external relationships and alliances across functional and organizational boundaries through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Knowledge of the Debt Capital Markets will be an advantage

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

• Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

• CA(SA) / CFA /B. Comm Honours/LLB/Relevant Postgraduate Qualification.

• CA(SA), CFA

Minimum Experience Level

• 3 years’ experience in an investment banking environment. Experience in Fixed Income Market -trading, structuring and/or advisory while not essential, will be beneficial.
