    Part Time Lecturer

    Job Description

    Department Description

    The Department of Occupational Therapy invites applications from skilled, innovative and self motivated Occupational Therapists to join this dynamic and innovative department as a part time (50% appointment/21.25 hours per week) Lecturer in the field of Physical Occupational Therapy - Neurology. Applicants are required to work well in a team, and to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Brief Description

    Requirements:

    • A recognized undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy.
    • Current registration with the HPCSA.
    • At least three years clinical experience in the field of Physical Occupational Therapy- Neurology 
    • Experience in the teaching and clinical supervision of students, particularly on the primary healthcare platform.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Valid driver’s license and own transport.

    Preferences:

    • A Master’s qualification, or studying towards a Master’s qualification, will be an advantage
    • Experience in adult and paediatric neurology field of practice
    • Clinical/work experience at primary level of care will be an advantage.
    • Experience in research supervision, conference presentations and publication in journals will be an advantage.

    Responsibilities: Teaching

    • Contribute to the development and the maintenance of standards of the undergraduate Problem Based Learning (PBL) educational programme.
    • Contribute to the development and the maintenance of standards of the postgraduate educational programme. •Facilitate a number of PBL sessions across the curriculum.
    • Neurology- adults and paediatrics
    • Therapeutic apparatus
    • Physical assessments
    • Co-coordination of the physical fieldwork for students in the 3rd year of study
    • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate clinical fieldwork (if applicable).
    • Contribute to the development and support of undergraduate and postgraduate students through mentoring and academic support. Administration and Management.
    • Contribute to the general promotion and development of the department and the profession within the school, university and community. Contribute to the development of a cohesive teaching team, to organize fieldwork placements, develop PBL programmes, curriculum books and course outlines.
    • Set and mark tests and examinations, compile marks and organise and co-ordinate fieldwork blocks.
    • Oversee 3rd year physical subject and manage any problems with students’ progress. Research
    • Develop a research profile, publish annually and contribute to the departmental research
    • Protocol development and research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Professional Development
    • Develop professional knowledge and skill as a therapist, academic and educator.
