First Steps Parenting Centre is a tertiary level service that offers specialty allied health and nursing services to families with children aged 0-5 years. This position provides both innovative and evidence-based parenting interventions in an individual and group setting.
Selection Criteria
- Must hold as a minimum a bachelor degree in social work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Extensive counselling/clinical experience and demonstrated expertise in the following areas: Maternal and infant mental health; Working with new parents; Working with families with children 0-5; Working with high risk, vulnerable families.
- Demonstrated capacity to provide clinical consultation and facilitate case review, in the context of family orientated casework in a community based multidisciplinary setting / and including experience and ability to liaise with other agencies (both government and non-government).
- Knowledge and understanding of key issues facing new and vulnerable parents within the context of parent and infant mental health, and adjusting to parenthood.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in clinical group work – examples include Circle of Security, postnatal depression and anxiety, toddler behaviour and any other relevant parenting groups
- Demonstrated high level of clinical experience providing parenting interventions to enhance normal child development and parent-child attachment with toddlers and preschool aged children.
- Demonstrated understanding of child protection principles and practice and an understanding of the legislative context for child protection intervention.
- Current Driver’s Licence (NSW eligibility).
