    Investment Analyst (Disruptor)

    About the role

    Responsible for determining prices of new derivative products and identifying schemes for managing risk on such products.   Builds pricing models for trading systems.  Understands underlying theoretical stochastic models and the variety of numerical schemes required to develop, implement and maintain pricing models.  Researches new models and numerical schemes.  Ensures that all risks in trading book products are correctly valued.  May be involved in identifying profitable trading opportunities.

    What will you do?

    Under direct supervision assist investment specialists in the daily operations of a specific SIG division. Focus areas may include dealing, credit & risk management and research and will be on a rotational basis. Duties may include the following: 

    Credit Risk

    • Analyse credit data to estimate degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money to corporates, within restricted limits. Study economic trends in a corporate’s industry or branch of industries, to assess credit worthiness. Preparation and presentation of credit applications, to Credit committees.

    Risk Management

    • Report and monitor daily risk across a combination of business units. This includes but is not limited to: Market Risk, Credit Risk, Liquidity Risk, Funding Risk.
    • Following up on limit breaches and obtaining explanations from the front office teams. Error and exception monitoring and follow-up.
    • Assist with the production of management reports (fortnightly, monthly, and quarterly).

    Dealing

    • Understanding the credit markets in South Africa and globally.
    • Analyse financial statements of corporates and identify those corporates best suited to debt funding.
    • Assisting senior dealmakers in meeting preparation, client proposals, term sheets, etc.
    • Potential transactions range from vanilla corporate funding to structured and asset backed finance.
    • Drafting of credit memorandums to the various credit committees, motivation of credit transactions, implementation of transactions, monitoring of transactions, handling client requests.

    Research

    • Keeping up to date with best dealing, credit,and risk management practices: 
    • Researching and advising businesses on new dealing, credit and risk management techniques

    Will use Actuarial and Quantitative Skills in the following Area:

    • Investment Product Development
    • Asset-Liability Management
    • Liquidity Management
    • Structuring with Derivatives
    • Assist with adhoc projects

    Technical Competencies

    • Computer literate with proven proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and VBA)
    • Financial market knowledge and capital markets, including the knowledge of various financial instruments
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Any undergraduate or post graduate qualification across all sectors

    What will you do?

    Core Tasks:

    Secretarial support to the Sanlam Retail Affluent Company Secretary:

    • Excellent diary management.
    • Time and priority management.

    Role Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • Secretarial diploma
    • Company secretarial qualification will be an advantage.

    Experience:

    • At least 7 years secretarial experience on a senior/executive level.
    • Business etiquette on an executive level.
    • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & Power Point.
    • Exposure to Diligent board or similar.

    Knowledge:

    • Business communications methods and processes.
    • Organisational impact (red tape, protocol, confidentiality etc.).
    • Business knowledge will be to your advantage.
    • An understanding of the Sanlam structures, committees and processes would be an advantage.

    Output/Core Tasks:

    • The Client Care Centre environment is divided into three divisions, a call centre a front of office and an administration division that deals with all other types of communication and correspondence from our customers.
