    Job Advert Summary

    TB HIV Care (THC), in existence since 1929, is an internationally recognised non-profit organisation. We provide health care services throughout South Africa to both the general population and communities at increased risk for HIV and TB, including adolescent girls and young women, sex workers and people who use drugs.     Purpose of the position:

    This post will provide psycho social services under the supervision of a social worker within the context of an HIV Priority Populations Prevention programme focusing on adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and adolescent boys and young men (ABYM). This will include screening and assessment, and referral to social worker for therapeutic social work services, within the PPPrev Programme. The social auxiliary worker will also conduct structural programmes addressing HIV prevention and gender-based violence, smart finance as well as engage with relevant stakeholders with government departments, with partners and in the social work field.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work from a recognised college or institution
    • Minimum of 2 years’ related experience
    • SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions)
    • Proficiency in English and isiZulu languages
    • Valid code 8 driver’s licence
    • Preference will be given to qualifying candidates residing within 5km radius

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conducts comprehensive psycho-social assessments and house hold pro filling
    • Provide minimum package of community-based care and refer to social worker /facility for continuum of care
    • Follow up on beneficiaries and provide psycho social support
    • Provides structural programmes including SASA
    • Educates patients and their families
    • Informs clients and their families on eligibility criteria for social support grants
    • Works under supervision of social worker in a multi-disciplinary team
    • Networks with all relevant stakeholders and implements an effective referral system to ensure effective service delivery
    • Lobbies and advocates for patient’s needs
    • Assist in implementation of youth care clubs
    • Attends training and workshops as part of staff development
    • Provides referrals according AGYW & ABYM needs to social worker and other external networks
    • Submits monthly reports to the supervisor
    • Records and maintains accurate and detailed patient information and interventions

    Social Worker

    Purpose of the position:

    To provide psychosocial and counselling services to SW clients by proving professional and holistic social work services. To lead the psychosocial team in ensuring ART adherence and PrEP retention.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor of Arts in social work or Bachelor of social science
    • Knowledge of sex work environment
    • Minimum of two years’ work experience as a Social Worker
    • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
    • Fluent in English and IsiZulu
    • Valid Code 08 driver’s license
    • Computer literate in MS office

    Dietician

    Purpose of the position:

    To provide nutritional support and rehabilitation, as well as prevention of nutritional illnesses in the southern subdistrict. Provides support for the nutritional care of the targeted community as part of a multidisciplinary team who render home-based care services.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Degree B.Sc. Dietetics B.Sc. / Dietetics Degree
    • Completion of community service as a Dietitian
    • Valid Code 08 Drivers licence
    • Registered with HPCSA
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure adequate and optimal feeding is practised for malnourished children aged 0-5 years 
    • Contribute to the prevention of nutrition-related diseases, via adequate disease- and/or condition-specific nutrition counselling 
    • Contribution to the improvement in nutritional status of children aged 0-5 years through targeted Vitamin A supplementation 
    • Support community-based interventions 
    • Provide support and training related to nutrition to other members of the team 
    • Provide nutrition-related health promotion and education

    Counselling & Testing

    Purpose of the position:

    Conducts community, household and individual health assessments and identify individual health needs and risks (actual and potential). Facilitate the family or an individual to seek the appropriate health service and promote the health of the households and the individuals within these households. Refer individuals for further assessment and testing after performing simple basic screening. Provides limited, simple health interventions in a household. Provide psychosocial support and manage interventions such as treatment interrupted tracing and adherence support.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 certificate
    • 5 Day Basic HIV information course, 13 Day Intensive Counselling course and 10 Day Adherence,
    • Finger Prick certificate
    • Must be resident in the area and have good knowledge of the geographical area
    • Fluent in Afrikaans and/or English
    • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide education on HIV/TB/STI prevention, risk reduction planning, correct condom use and living positively
    • Perform wound care using appropriate material
    • Data collection
    • Promote Intensive HIV counselling and Adherence support to clients within their care
    • Facilitate chronic clubs for wellness and ART and the duties included
    • Supports long term retention in care strategy for stable patients as the Club Facilitator role in the Adherence Club team
    • Appropriate referral of all new cases- HIV, TB and STI
