    Logistics Manager - South Africa

    Job Description

    • As the Logistics Manager you will develop a comprehensive logistics plan which aligns the production, sales and logistics plans considering all constraints and risks. You will also be expected to overseer the management of related logistics contracts, including the critical rail transportation agreement, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing leadership and direction in the development of annual budgets, Monthly Operational Plans (MOP), tactical plans, and weekly rolling plans
    • Interfacing with internal stakeholders to obtain a high-level view on planned production volumes to ensure execution and smooth flow of end-to-end logistics related marketing processes
    • Forecasting long-term rail and port capacity needs as well as opportunities for additional rail and port to optimise transportation routes and sales to customers
    • Aligning logistics plans (rail, truck, and port) with production and sales targets, ensuring buffer stockpiles are within acceptable limits and preventing mines from running into a stock-bound position
    • Providing insights on rail, port, and trucking performance to support short, medium and long-term production planning
    • Providing critical support in terms of operational and commercial tactics in negotiating a new long-term TFR rail transportation contract, which is a strategic lever for Thungela’s placement strategy
    • Managing and maintaining n logistic stakeholder and customer relationships effectively. This includes the critical relationship with TFR’s commercial and operational teams and RBCT
    • Implementing logistics supplier, Port operations and customer performance management measures, including developing Service Level agreements between service providers and Thungela
    • Liaising with TMI on port loading requirements to ensure maximised blend value uplift and on specification coal is loaded on vessels
    • Collaborating with sales and operations teams to develop and implement a cohesive logistics strategy
    • Measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of the logistics strategy, ensuring continuous improvement
    • Establishing and maintaining a governance framework to manage integrated planning and logistics effectively
    • Ensuring safe and efficient product movement from stockpiles to final destinations in line with contractual requirements
    • Negotiating logistics-related contracts to maximise commercial value and minimise risk, including adherence to safety standards
    • Ensuring all operational and commercial terms and conditions of the TFR rail transportation agreement and the RBCT rules and regulations are adhered to

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ Degree / B-Tech in Marketing, Commerce, Business Administration, Logistics, Finance, or related discipline (NQF level 7)

    Experience & Knowledge

    • Minimum of 6 years’ experience managing logistics in an operational planning and logistics environment in a commodity and bulk environment
    • Experience in negotiating and managing third-party contracts

    Domestic Marketing Manager

    Job Description

    • As the Domestic Marketing Manager, you will develop and execute strategies and tactical plans related to domestic sales as well as developing strategies with the applicable stakeholders and ensuring that actions are in place to execute all strategies.

    More of your responsibilities will include:

    • Creating, developing, and negotiating domestic coal supply contracts, including the relevant financial, technical, and commercial requirements
    • Communicating any contract or contract changes to key stakeholders, inclusive of understanding and communicating the impact of those changes to the ISOP logistics, marketing, and finance teams
    • Ensuring that all system adjustments (such as pricing amendments if required, volume amendments if required) are made before any invoice is processed
    • Ensuring that all sales contracts are delivered in line with governance, filled and closed in SAP and funds received in Thungela’s accounts before being noted as completed – ‘cradle to grave ownership’
    • Contributing towards meeting and/or exceeding budget sales through budgeted products and sales as well as exit options to enable market sector contract switching
    • Ensuring compliance with all contractual terms, marketing governance and execution controls in the fulfilment of the contract – volumes, quality complaints, price adjustments and invoicing compliance (ALCTC/WBX), payment terms, validity, signature
    • Generating value optioned and opportunistic spot sales contracts, as well as maintain all existing short-term sales contracts
    • Effective stakeholder management and healthy customer relationships through timely resolution of customers’ queries and regular contact and interface with customers
    • Creating effective feedback loops between the company and customers to enable focused service provision
    • Executing the MRD sales strategy through the negotiation and conclusion of the relevant sales transaction agreements
    • Developing and executing the MRD sales strategy in-country aligned with the business imperatives as well as infrastructure availability
    • Ensuring compliance with all contractual terms in the fulfilment of the contract
    • Delivering accurate timely contract renewals and ensure all aspects of the contract are adhered to by all parties as well as tracking debtors’ day and collection mechanisms
    • In conjunction with the ISOP team, ensure effective logistics management for domestic sales
    • Record keeping, reporting and management communications to ensure domestic sales are well understood and known with the internal Thungela stakeholders

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree / BTech in Minerals processing, Geology, Marketing, Commerce, Logistics, Finance or related field (NQF Level 7)

    Experience & Knowledge

    • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the field of physical sales and marketing / trading field, preferably in the field of commodities
    • Experience in the mining industry within the marketing, supply, operational or finance departments (advantageous)
    • Continuous display of commercial acumen and cash/value impact of decisions and alternatives

    • Proven track record of dealing with relatively variable volumes, constantly evolving customer relations, spot as well as term supply relationships and urgent/high-risk coal
    • Proficient understanding of process analysis, planning and monitoring and reporting techniques and practices (including SAP)
    • Proficient knowledge and understanding of contractual frameworks, procedures, and systems
    • Proficient knowledge in customer relationship management and the management of contracts
    • Proficient knowledge of domestic and export trading within a commodity environment
    • Advanced knowledge of contract management and domestic logistics Management
    • Proficient and fluent knowledge and use of SAP and or trading CTRM systems
