    Context

    Alcohol online continues to accelerate, growing ten times faster than traditional channels. Over 80% of all purchasing decisions are currently influenced by digital today. The Digital Commerce team in Europe are responsible for driving and influencing every online & omnichannel sale of our brands both on sites we own and partner’s sites (trade and consumer facing). Our purpose as a team is to embed Digital Commerce into the DNA of the business, delivering accelerated growth. This field has massive strategic importance, not only to Diageo but also to our customers who see a considerable cost benefit in moving their business online. There is no other part of our business that is disrupting at that level of scale and pace. In today’s connected world, digital is no longer ‘optional’.

    External Affairs Manager

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Political Sciences, Economics, Communication or other business-related subject

    Experience - Essential

    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in managing public policy
    • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience; ability to manage complex projects on time and within budget
    • Established network of contacts and/or capability to build relations with stakeholders relevant to Diageo business
    • Strong analytical and data interpretation ability
    • Experience in influencing public policy outcome
    • Understanding of the legislative process and experience in engaging with it
    • Understanding of the Southern African political landscape including political drivers and deep knowledge of Government system at all level

    Experience – Desired

    • Alcohol industry experience will be an advantage
    • Ability to build strong, productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside of the organisation
    • Confidence, ability to stand ground
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
    • Proactive mind-set, willingness to take ownership of outcomes
