    Field Extension Officer

    About the Job

    Purpose of the Job

    • The Field Extension Officer is responsible for ensuring the correct variety mix of potatoes are contracted, planted and harvested in accordance with timelines and agreed pricing so to deliver the required volumes and quality at the right time and the right price to the production team.
    • He/she is responsible for expanding grower base and volumes, ensure compliance with company guidelines and provide technical support to growers. Monitor fields on two weekly basis, highlight risk to the Company and Growers and ensure that Growers are GAP and legal compliant.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum Bachelors Agric Degree in Agronomy/Crop production or Crop Science
    • Advantage will be given to applicants who are AVCASA and BASOS certified.
    • At least 4 -6 years operational agricultural experience of which at least 4 years should be potato production related in a similar role advisory role
    • Valid EB Drivers License (Code E)
    • Exceptional knowledge and understanding of agricultural production systems and variables, e.g. crops, climate, disease, fertilization, irrigation, soils, etc.
    • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, problem solving and relationship building skills.
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging operational environment.
    • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills.

    Health & Safety Manager

    About the Job

    Purpose of the Job:

    • The incumbent is responsible for developing, monitoring and improving the site’s safety system, behaviour and culture. She/he is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the local OHS, COIDA Acts and McCain Global requirements and maintains a safe working environment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop, review, and enforce policies & procedures according to legal & social standards guideline.
    • Procurement and maintenance of emergency equipment and PPE.
    • Schedule and execute contractors & internal audits against set standards.
    • Communicate and promote safe working and operating practices amongst employees, visitors, and contractors.
    • Implement SHE strategies for the site on an annual basis and submit to the relevant seniors for review.
    • Create a culture of safety
    • Lead and champion change management on safety
    • Identify and mitigate top risks for the site
    • Manage and control the SHE, security, canteen budget
    • Facilitate investigations on ALL incidents, RCA, with the different departments, report to DOL within 7 days, where applicable and submit COIDA outstanding documentation in specified time and follow up.
    • Report and Log SHE incidents on the Global system and ensure that it is investigated until completion and report all recordable injuries accordingly.
    • Preparing weekly and monthly HSE reports and presenting them to management
    • Identifying and executing health & safety training needs (i.e., HSE induction, Emergency action plan, Health & safety rep, Safe handling of pesticides &chemicals).
    • Coordinate health and safety committee meetings and monthly HSE meetings and evacuation drills.

    Requirements:

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum experience/knowledge:

    • National Diploma Safety Management or Samtrac qualification equivalent
    • Atleast 5-8 years experience in health, safety and contractor management\
    • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and requirements.
    • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal and influential skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
    • Subject matter expert with a proven track record of culture development
    • Good knowledge of Risk assessments, SHE Inspections, Permits, HCS, Incident investigation and safety related requirements, as well as Health and Risk (security) knowledge to a semi factory environment.
    • Assist in SHE strategy plans, RCA, Kaizen, aspects/impacts, ISO standard implementation, NCR’s/CAR’s
    • Valid SA Drivers License

    Electrician

    About the Job

    Purpose of the Job  

    • The purpose of the Electrician will be to be responsible for the repairs, maintenance and installation of electrical equipment onsite with the responsibility and accountability of ensuring the continuous operation of all equipment and electrical installations thereby ensuring the effectiveness of the Department’s Maintenance system.

    Responsibilities:

    • Tests, troubleshoots, performs Route Cause Analysis, and replaces malfunctioning transformers, electrical motors, lighting fixtures and circuits, and faulty electrical/electronic components with the use of electrical handheld meters and equipment-specific schematics to correct faults.
    • Assist other team members in troubleshooting, with the goal to minimize equipment downtime that interrupts production.
    • Test motors to determine if it needs replacement and replace electrical motor bearings and wires electric motors.
    • Calibrate instruments and control valves
    • Plans layout of and installation of wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings, with adherence to the National Electric Code.
    • Documenting changes or modifications, which may result in changing parameters, circuits, components, configuration, or orientation of an electrical/electronic device for future reference by self and others.
    • Communicates problems or changes in the department to team lead and appropriate personnel
    • Performs 5S visual management and proactive plant/workspace walkabouts, to identify threats

    Requirements

    • Minimum requirement is a Electrical Red Seal (Trade Test), with minimum 3-years’ experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment within a FMCG Industry, preferably within the Food Industry
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a nated N4 – N6 qualification
    • Working knowledge of PLC hardware and 480V circuits
    • Understanding and experience in instrument calibration (i.e. level, pressure, flow transmitters, control valves); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Familiarity with the use of a structured CMMS, such as SAP PM.
    • Sound organizational skills in completing prioritized work activities
    • Ability to program Allen Bradley Variable Frequency Drives (advantageous)
    • Experience with conveyor systems, pumps, and packaging equipment (advantageous)
    • Medically fit to work in cold and stressful environment and willing to work shifts as and when required including over weekends

    Maintenance Superintendent

    About the Job

    Purpose of the Job

    • The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading a team of artisans in carrying out all aspects of mechanical maintenance of the equipment. She or he will provide supervision, oversight and a safe working environment to the maintenance team; ensure stability in operations through improved availability, performance and efficiency; ensure that asset maintenance plans are reviewed at appropriate intervals or as determined by the introduction of new assets/technology.

    Responsibilitites

    • Ensure that equipment is in a safe and operational condition according to McCain Safety standards and Key Elements of Safety.
    • Ensure that maintenance plans and schedules are in place for all mechanical equipment in area of responsibility and reviewed as per review intervals
    • Ensure that Equipment availability is above 99,5%
    • Ensure that maintenance systems are audited in line with global maintenance audit protocol
    • Ensure costs are kept within budget monthly until financial year end. Compile project costs and make recommendation regarding cost savings. Support SCA initiatives in plant and department
    • Take the lead on improving reliability and equipment standards via a dedicated reliability engineering function based on site.
    • Manage, coach and mentor the maintenance team

    Minimun Requirements

    • Minimum is a Diploma/B-Tech in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Trade certificate as Millwright
    • Minimum 10 years as a maintenance artisan with 5 years in FMCG industry, preferably food industry
    • Supervisory experience in a similar role.
    • Good computing skills
    • Sound mechanical and electrical knowledge
    • Agricultural equipment knowledge
    • Must have strong problem solving skills
    • Attention to detail
