    Lecturer - Department of Information Technology

    The Department of Information Technology wishes to appoint a Lecturer who can explain
    programming and software engineering concepts and inspire our students as they engage with our IT
    modules. You will need to demonstrate an ability to deliver excellent and engaging teaching across a
    range of theory-based and practical modules and be comfortable with languages and platforms such
    as, C#, Java, MySQL, Python, PHP and AWS/Azure. Ability to mentor individual and groups of students
    as they develop software solutions for mobile applications, web, virtual, cloud or network-based
    environments.

    The Department of Information Technology hosts the Luban Workshop in collaboration with Taijin
    Vocational Institute (TVI) of China. These are specialist labs for 3D printing and NB IOT. This creates
    a unique environment, providing an exciting employment opportunity.

    Essential requirements:

    • A PhD or Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer
    • Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
    • At least 3 year lecturing experience in Higher Education.
    • Desirable requirements:
    • Experienced in languages and platforms such as, C#, Java, MySQL, Python, PHP and AWS/Azure.
    • Ability to mentor individual and groups of students as they develop software solutions for mobile
    • applications, web, virtual, cloud or network based environments.

    Senior Lecturer / Lecturer - Department of Fine Art and Jewellery Design

    Minimum requirements for Senior Lecturer:

    • A completed PhD in Art or Design.
    • At least 5 years lecturing experience at an undergraduate level at a tertiary institution.
    • Candidates must demonstrate scholarship of teaching and must have produced/ published in
    • the preceding three years, three publication units (e.g. accredited book, chapter in a book,
    • accredited creative output, patent, review article, journal article, peer-reviewed conference
    • proceedings, etc.).
    • Successful supervision of at least one postgraduate student at Masters’ level.

    Minimum requirements for Lecturer:

    • A completed Masters/M.Tech in Jewellery Design or an associated field.
    • At least 3 years lecturing experience at an undergraduate level at a tertiary institution.

    Additional Recommendations:

    • A research track record (publications/ creative outputs and/or exhibitions).
    • Lecturing experience at a University of Technology.
    • Lecturing experience with English Second Language students.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • A portfolio of creative work that demonstrates an engagement with jewellery design,
    • adornment arts, or related.
    • Familiarity and/or experience with Online Teaching Platforms (Moodle)
    • A gemmological background would be an advantage
    • CAD/ CAM skills (Rhino 3D)
    • Competency in a range of craft skills (such as weaving, ceramics, casting, textiles, beadwork,
    • carving, metal work etc.)
    • Industry related engagement and experience.
    • A goldsmithing qualification.
    • Drawing skills (relating to design, visualisation, problem solving and technical drawing).

    Associate Professor (Faculty of Management Science)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:

    • A sustained and demonstrable history of personal commitment to peace principles and involvement in peace practice;
    • A PhD in Peace Studies, Nonviolence, Conflict Transformation, or related areas;
    • Minimum of seven years consistent, extensive and excellent performance in teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (with successful postgraduate supervision or equivalent) in Peace Studies, Nonviolence, Conflict Transformation or related areas;
    • Achievement of national and/or international recognition through research outputs within the last seven years, but with emphasis on recent research outputs;
    • Professional recognition through scholarship, creative activity, demonstration of professional development and initiation of high-level training courses and advanced seminars;
    • Significant contribution to community engagement;
    • A critical understanding of theory underlying transformative pedagogies, and the ability to develop relevant curricula and to teach consistently with such approaches;

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

    • Take delegated responsibility for the teaching, learning and assessing of modules offered, at all levels associated with the academic programme of the Centre;
    • Teaching of modules in General Education, in collaboration with other DUT staff, requiring skills in facilitation, the use of participatory methods and the ability to design teaching, to produce relevant materials and to assess, as well as teaching on the ICON Postgraduate Diploma in Peace Studies;
    • Make major contributions to academic quality by providing leadership in all aspects of offerings associated with Peace Studies or related areas in the Centre;
    • Develop, design and review learning content associated with Peace Studies or related ICON areas;
    • Supervise and co-supervise postgraduate students at both masters and doctoral level. The extent of involvement will include teaching groups of students in relevant theory and methodology;
    • All staff undertake research work in collaboration with, or reporting to, the ICON Director. Such work involves the development of research proposals, finding resources for research, gaining ethical clearance and undertaking all steps in the research process, including writing for publication;
    • Publish in reputable journals;
    • Promote community engagement within the Centre; this includes direct involvement with events at
    • DUT and in broader society, often closely related to research activities at ICON that promote a culture of peace, inclusion and human rights, speaking on behalf at ICON in our interaction with other parts of civil society, and organising conferences and seminars.
    • General administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department.

    Financial Systems Specialist

    Minimum Requirements:

    • NQF level 7 in Finance or Commerce with Certificate in project management, database design, database implementation or ERP-specific administration OR A bachelor’s degree in information systems or IT-related degree with postgraduate certificates in financial management and project management
    • 5 to 8 years in a financial environment with supervisory experience. This should include a minimum of 1 years’ experience in the ERP Financial Module (FI)
    • A proven background in accounting/financial processes.
    • Advanced grasp of relational databases and operating systems.
    • Outstanding Excel (VBA) skills.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Actively contribute to the development and realisation of the Financial Systems strategy, ensuring the implementation of financial ERP solutions – to achieve a consolidated finance system, unified financial management and information
    • Develop, manage and drive implementation projects with a methodological approach, in close cooperation with project leaders, in order to ensure the development and implementation of Financial System Initiatives
    • Translate user requirements into a detailed requirement specification (design) document, adapt and/or add additional modules to (standardised) ERP solutions and companion products, and develop and provide implementation plans based on design documents including objectives, work, timing, and training.
    • Build test plans based on specifications in the design document, prepare test environment(s), and complete various test activities such as system testing, quality control and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
    • Drive realisation of the planned implementations by installing, configuring, and optimizing applications and solutions, ensuring compliance and identifying and implementing adoptions of new financial applications
    • Manage transactions in the ERP systems (i.e., confirmation on transactions and closing off month end to prevent further user access).
    • Ensure that appropriate service levels and quality standards are maintained.
    • Provide ERP system support and training to businesses.
    • Ensure compliance to ICT Governance, Project Management and Change Control standards and procedures.
    • Analyse and apply required configuration changes or development to fulfil change requests.
    • Review business cases, functional specifications, blueprints, and all other associated documentation.
    • Perform various analytical functions and CRM modules in an ERP system application, including analyzing and correcting entries and propose the introduction of new reports and changes and new programs.
    • Establish and maintain regular meetings with different User Group representatives (management) to proactively encourage process and system improvements.
    • Provide support to all financial users (internal and external) relating to issues or queries on the ERP system.
    • Report technical problems to ICTS and liaise with ICTS to correct technical issues.
    • Assist on retrieving historical data from the legacy systems.
    • Resolve business process related tickets logged with Help Desk at ICTS.
    • Identify, assess, and call out risk as required, in order to mitigate risk and contribute to appropriate actions.
    • Ensure that all statutory requirements are completed with accurate financial information for submission.
    • Ensure that all clients’ correspondence is sent timeously!
    • Manage the monthly reconciliation to the general ledger.
    • Process all required financial information.
