    Control Room Operator

    Description

    The purpose of this position is to continuously monitor all process parameters to ensure safe and effective operation of the production plant according to operating procedures and standards.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Control and monitor all process equipment through information received from the Scada System
    • Act promptly on process defects as indicated by the Scada System
    • Identify and report any potentially unsafe conditions
    • Coordinating Process Operators and Attendants on the shift to act promptly on process defects
    • Report abnormal and unusual conditions immediately
    • Monitor and record process parameters such as flows, pressures, levels, and temperatures to ensure effective operation.
    • Interact and communicate with all Process and Engineering staff
    • On instruction call-out appropriate Maintenance staff
    • Complete production log-sheets
    • Perform general housekeeping duties

    Qualification Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • National Certificate Mineral Processing Level 2 will be advantageous

    Experience and Skills Requirements

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Process Operator
    • Flotation circuit operation experience will be advantageous
    • English Language Proficiency
    • Computer literacy
    • Competent in Scada System
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritise
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Time management skills

    Engineering Learnership

    Description

    The purpose of this position is to enable Learners to be trained and developed to become qualified Engineering Artisans.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Learners will be required to successfully complete a structured learnership training programme and must be prepared and willing to train and work in the training centre, metallurgical plants etc. and the Learners will be subjected to work under close / direct supervision of Qualified Artisans.

    Qualification Requirements:

    • Minimum Grade 12 with Maths & Science or N2-N6 or NCV Level 4 with relevant trade subjects:
    • FITTING (including Machining): N2 Fitting Trade Theory, Engineering Drawing, Maths & Engineering Science.
    • PLATER WELDER: N2 Plater Theory, Plating and Structural Steel Drawings, Maths & Engineering Science.
    • ELECTRICAL: N2 Electrical Trade Theory, Industrial Electronics, Maths & Engineering Science.
    • RIGGER ROPESMAN: N2 Rigging Trade Theory, Engineering drawing, Maths, Engineering Science.

    Experience & Skills Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Able to work under pressure
    • Able to work as part of a team and individually
    • Technical acumen
    • A valid Driver’s Licence will be advantageous
    • Applicants will be required to undergo and pass a medical fitness assessment and any other assessment deemed necessary for the field of application
    • Candidates will also be required to undergo a psychometric assessment and panel interview for selection purposes
    • Candidates must be able to travel for practical training purposes

    Metallurgical Technicians - Saldanha Bay Rural

    Description

    The purpose of this position is to continuously monitor production output and optimise process efficiency in line with plant capacity and sound processing principles

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Ensure compliance with WCPO’s Health, Safety & Environmental requirements
    • Ensure that Process activities are communicated and implemented.
    • Comply with provided systems, practices, methods, standards and procedures of the work
    • Ensure adherence to the specified process parameters within the respective sections
    • Effective trouble shooting in case of deviations
    • Identify, diagnose and analyse deviations and consult with Shift Supervisor/ Senior Metallurgical Team prior to implementing changes
    • Provide technical support and advice to responsible shift personnel and feedback to Senior Metallurgical Team.
    • Be responsible for implementing required plant metallurgical actions/activities on shift
    • Cover for Control Room Operators/ Section Supervisors when required
    • Conduct research (literature or practical) on specific topics received from the Senior Metallurgist/Process Superintendent / Plant Manager / Client
    • Conduct test and project work in the laboratory and do physical tests in the plant and consolidate test results with past reports and other findings
    • Evaluate the viability of implementing projects and make necessary recommendations for changes in the process
    • Ensure adherence to Client quality requirements by monitoring laboratory feedback and ensuring the implementation of corrective measures
    • Continuously monitor the production process to ensure adherence to ISO and legislative standards/requirements
    • Perform administrative duties to ensure record and reporting accuracy and availability and reagent stock management.

    Qualification Requirements

    • A National Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering

    Experience and Skills Requirements

    • 1 – 2 years’ experience in a processing environment
    • Phosphate processing experience will be an advantage
    • English language proficiency
    • Presentation skills
    • Time management skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Employee Relations and People Management skills
    • Computer literate in MS Office
    • Valid driver’s licence code B, EB or C1
