    Senior Planner

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Planner (Lead) on a contract basis with extensive experience in the mining and minerals industry on large capital projects, including projects in remote locations and other countries, in particular third world countries.

    Main Purpose of Role

    • To develop, progress and report the schedule status of the project and proactively assist and support the PM to deliver the project objectives and to report on the project status.
    • Work on either a single major project or provide planning support to a number of smaller projects and studies to compile and co-ordinate the smooth running of the project schedule.
    • The planner undertakes the initial and ongoing detailed forward planning for the project in support of the PM.

    Role Specific Responsibilities

    • Provide support and inform the PM and construction manager (CM) in respect of progress measurement on the project.
    • Prepare, issue and maintain the master schedule of the project.
    • Review the bid milestones and overall completion timetable in conjunction with the project scope at award and identify any anomalies or inconsistencies.
    • In collaboration with the project team and all other participants, develop the work breakdown structure (WBS) and integrate the code of accounts with the WBS.
    • In consultation with the project team, identify key critical constraints and interfaces.
    • Establish key milestone dates in agreement with the PM.
    • Establish productivity norms, time standards and progress measurement criteria for all disciplines in liaison with project controls.
    • Develop the basis of schedule (BoS) and / or schedule management plan for approval by the PM.
    • Set up the interface between the schedule and the applied company / project system (if required).
    • Ensure that commissioning considerations are established and catered for in the project program during program baseline development.
    • Identify the critical path(s) and near critical paths in the project implementation schedule (PIS). Report slippages and gains against the baseline schedule.
    • Monitor, control and report the status of free and total float in the schedule.
    • Evaluate and integrate contractor’s and supplier’s schedules and report findings to the PM, CM and project engineer.
    • Where required, assist the construction manager to implement shutdown schedules.
    • Provide input and review proposed change management time implications and document the result. Manage approved changes in the schedule.
    • Attend project and contract kick off, progress, cost control and planning meetings and manage changes in the schedule.
    • Review the schedule portions of contractor’s extra work claims and prepare details for discussion and/or inclusion in any response.
    • Assist project controls to produce management reports and the monthly status reports.
    • Prepare and submit planning data for the project close out report and progressive learning (lessons learned).
    • To undertake peer reviews of schedules produced by other planners upon instruction by the planning manager.
    • Ensure that all plans and schedules are prepared and executed in accordance with the Company’s planning standards.

    Senior Project Manager

    Study Manager

    Main Purpose of the Role:

    • Responsible for the study life cycle of process mining projects, including concept origination, pre-feasibility and bankable feasibility
    • Assist in tender and proposal preparation, as required

    Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

    Procurement Officer

    Job Objective:

    • Reports to the PPM (Project Procurement Manager) and performs procurement related tasks in accordance with either project and/or company sanctioned procedures and plans ensuring strict compliance thereto.     Job Objective:

    Senior Cost Engineer

    Main Purpose of Role

    • To assist the lead cost engineer and project controls manager (if applicable) in planning, monitoring and reporting the status of project manhours, indirect costs, capital costs and owner’s costs (if applicable) by applying relevant cost management methodology, procedures and systems.
    • Work on either a single major project and / or provide cost control support to a number of smaller projects and studies to compile and co-ordinate the smooth running of the company projects’ and studies’ cost reports, in support of the relevant project / study managers.

    Role Specific Responsibilities

    • Projects and studies – includes the relevant duties below as agreed per project and / or study.
    • Assist the lead cost engineer and project controls manager in developing cost control procedures and practices for inclusion in the project management plan. Comply with and carry out regular reviews of the procedures and update as required.
    • Assist in defining the project work breakdown structure (WBS) to ensure compatibility with the applied project cost control system.
    • Assist with the compilation of the baseline budget to the agreed WBS from the control budget estimate (CBE) that was agreed to by the client for:
    • Indirect field costs including EPCM manhours and disbursements
    • Direct field costs including temporary construction facilities
    • Other costs including insurances, legal costs and professional fees
    • Owners costs (if applicable)
    • Fund allocations – committing correct amounts in CBE and applied project cost control system and providing correct WBS codes for funds to be allocated against.
    • Liaise with contract administrators and procurement officers to allocate budget amounts for packages.
    • Provide expert cost engineering services to the project.
    • Provide assistance to users of the applied project cost control system within the project.
    • Attend project kick off, progress, cost control and planning meetings and implement approved changes in the cost control system as directed.
    • Establish and maintain histograms, S-curves, KPI’s, graphs / curves for recording and monthly status reporting of project costs and forecasting.
    • Manage contingency drawdown, escalation, calculate forecast at completion, report cost variances and initiate change control for cost adjustments where necessary.
    • Maintain registers for change management.
    • Processing budget shifts and scope changes in the CBE and applied project cost control system when such changes are registered for both studies and projects.
    • Facilitate the assessment of forecast to complete (FTC) and forecast at completion (FAC) costs with the relevant project personnel and update the applied project cost control system accordingly.

    • Commitment forecasting.
    • Prepare cost reports showing the original budget, current budget, commitments, FAC, incurred and expended values and variances.
    • Oversee the project accounting department in respect of the figures produced for corporate reporting of project performance and client invoicing.
    • Oversee the project accounting department in respect of capital contractor invoicing and processing of such for payment by client.
    • Assist in the compilation of project close out reports by preparation and submission of cost control data.

    Principal Process Engineer (Systems)

    Main Purpose of the Role:

    The Principal Process Engineer: Systems is accountable for ensuring the Process Engineering Department implements the appropriate process systems and procedures as well as software and ensures the tools are available and used profitably to achieve high quality and efficient project delivery. Specifically, this includes Intelligent (Process) Engineering Software and simulation software

    The Principal Process Engineer: Systems has two functions within the Process Department, namely:

    • To ensure that the Process Engineering Department maintains a leading-edge technical capability by developing people, designs, industry contacts, new technologies and innovative practices, including process database development to assist centralised information for discipline deliverable inputs and integration.
    • Accountable to develop, maintain and improve the Process Engineering Department systems that include, but are not limited to develop process toolset skills, improving study execution to enable the process group to complete deliverables in a shorter schedule and/or less hours
    • Manages the process designers to ensure that a high-quality product is delivered on time and in accordance with budget specifications.
    • Identify and manage continuous improvement activities within the Department including the maintenance of company standards and procedures and process calculations.
    • Ensures that the appropriate people are recruited, retained, and developed within the Process Systems Group and optimally utilised to achieve best practices.
    • Accountable to provide the frame and context for the Process Systems Group within the Process Engineering Department and to give feedback and recognition for direct reports.

    • Ensures that quality Process Engineering service, including drawings and design, is delivered to the Organisation.

    • Create clear guidelines to maintain quality and setting up robust templates to allow updates in process information, for example creating a Power BI or excel process database that can be updated and be used as a central location of information.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced team members and assist in their professional development.
    • Manage data created with process drawings and preparing outputs that can be used to check formal process deliverables.
    • Ensure client satisfaction as a measure of alignment with client needs.

    Skills / Qualifications
    Qualifications:

    • B Degree or B Tech in Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering
    • Experience in process systems and simulations, such as SysCAD and AutoCAD
    • M Degree in Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering
    • Experience in Intelligent Design system platforms, such as AVEVA

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager with extensive experience in the mining and minerals industry on large capital projects, including projects in remote locations and other countries, in particular third world countries.

    Job Objective:

    • Management and coordination of engineering disciplines on various projects and studies
    • Manage the engineering design basis for projects and studies, including requirements engineering, technical decisions, trade offs, design risks and safety by design.
    • Manage the engineering execution basis for projects and studies, including setup, execution, controlling and close-out of systems, process workflows and engineering deliverables.
    • Manage the interfaces between multidisciplinary engineering team, and between engineering and supply chain or construction management.

    Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

    • Assure the inherent safety and integrity of our design, analyses and technical deliverables through the application of sound engineering & technical principles, data and information management, standards, reviews systems and controls.
    • Ensure Wood engineering and technical execution strategies, standards and procedures are applied as applicable to assure technical hazard identification and risk assessment, integrity, major incident prevention, human factors, inherent safety and environmental sustainability in delivery.
