    Contract: Specialist SHEQ

    Position Purpose

    Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the SHEQ Specialist shall coordinate and facilitate the overall implementation of the SHEQ Management system within the TPL Departments in line with the requirements of applicable standards that Transnet and Transnet Pipelines subscribes to. He/she shall ensure safe working environment for the people is maintained and that both product and service quality meets the requirements.

    Position Outputs

    • Shall coordinate all SHEQ related functions within the area of responsibility in line with relevant ISO standards, TIMS and applicable legislative requirements
    • Provide specialist support to respective TPL departments/functions with the implementation and the maintenance of the SHEQ Management Systems (TIMS).
    • Work closely with the Departmental Managers and Supervisors in facilitating the risk assessments and advise on suitable mitigations measures
    • Ensure a proper document control within their respective areas of responsibility
    • Raise SHEQ concerns and recommendations during the SHEQ Meetings. Conduct SHEQ Awareness and Induction Training. Participate during the internal and external audits.
    • Initiate and facilitate the review of SHEQ related procedures and work instructions in line with the amended standards, TIMS, legislative requirements and ensure that approval processes are adhered to at all times.
    • Conduct awareness on the revised SHEQ policies and procedures. Advise Contractors of the applicable policies and procedures during the inductions. Conduct the risk assessments on site establishment in conjunction with the Contractors and identify mitigation measures.
    • Provide guidance to the respective Departmental Managers and Supervisor on the formulation of corrective and preventive actions to audit non-conformances
    • Disseminate the information to your respective area of responsibility pertaining to the changes affecting the SHEQ Management System and ensure compliance
    • Provide guidance and support to your respective area of responsibility on occurrence management, including investigations
    • Convey expertise advice during the SHEQ meetings and management reviews. Keep track of all NCRs and incidents status in your area of responsibility.
    • Ensure that recommendations emanating from emergency preparedness drills are planned and undertaken at specified intervals and maintain associated records
    • Provide guidance in the development, implementation and review of the emergency preparedness and response procedures and plans as well as communication thereof.

    Qualifications and Experience

    •  B degree: Health and Safety, Quality or equivalent. 
    •  5 years’ experience implementing and maintaining a SHEQ Management System. 
    •  Driver’s license Desired: 
    •  5 – 8 years’ experience implementing and maintaining a SHeQ Management System. 
    •  Certificates: ISO 9001, ISO 45001, SAMTRAC, ISO 17025 implementation & auditing 
    •  3 – 5 years’ experience in the chemical/petrochemical environment.

    Competencies

    •  Good communication, facilitation and presentations skills. 
    •  Computer literate (MS Office Package). 
    •  Well versed with the SAP system. 
    •  Report writing skills. 
    •  Valid driver’s licence.

    Knowledge required: 

    •  Understanding of ISO standards (ISO 9001; ISO 17025; OHSAS 18001; ISO 45001; ISO 3100; ISO 22301; NOSA (CMB253N). 
    •  Knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation (OHS Act; COID Act) and regulations (Construction Regulations and Railway Safety Regulations).
    •   Knowledge of SANS standards. 
    •  Risk assessment processes.

    Engineer

    Position Purpose

    The Engineer: Software System Validation will have to provide expert advice and support on control system integration and testing on rolling stock and port equipment. This includes specifying the correct/relevant electronic/control system, application and firmware specification or development, sensor instrumentation, control wiring, EMC/EMI considerations, operational and safety considerations, and lifecycle support.
    Participate in systems engineering activities including stakeholder engagement, requirement elicitation, system design and/or reviews, lab and field testing, test progress tracking and reporting, final acceptance testing, in-service evaluation, and relevant reporting

    Conduct system’s integration and system operational verification as per the set technical specifications, industry standards, and regulations.
    Conduct product design reviews and interact with the value chain, including other engineers, specialists, designers, manufacturers, suppliers, etc. to achieve functional effectiveness, cost effectiveness, safe and reliable product designs

    Position Outputs

    • Provide expert advice and support on electronic and control system design, integration, and testing on Rolling Stock and Port equipment.
    • Ensure compliance and conformity to Industry directives, standards, and regulations. Develop or debug various software/firmware applications.
    • Conduct lab testing and experiments as per requirements specifications.
    • Compile System Integration and Verification specifications. Develop Conceptual Designs and Technical Specifications.
    • Develop tender specification documents to support manufacturing business and assist with technical evaluations.
    • Identify resource requirements (Budget, Human Resources, Tools, and Instrument) and report to the Principal Engineer.
    • Apply specialist skills in Rolling Stock Equipment Product Integration, Assurance, and Support for manufacturing.
    • Develop and implement the product quality indicators in accordance with Transnet directives, local and international regulations and legislation, local and international standards, and specifications.
    • Coach and mentor young trainees through to becoming system integration experts, test engineers, and professionals in their field.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • BEng/ BSc Electronic or Electrical Engineering
    •  ISTQB certification (or similar) will be added advantage
    •  Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Engineering in a large organisation with a complex operations environment
    •  Experience in control system related design or testing in the rolling stock or ports equipment environment.
