    Employee Relations Business Partner

    Role Context

    Employee Relations Management

    • Provide guidance and expert advice to the Tharisa Minerals (TM) employee and management, regarding the implementation of best practice systems, employee discipline, litigation, and all other Human Resources (HR) related systems, practices, and processes, to maintain good employee relations (ER).
    • Serve as a mediator in resolving employee conflicts, grievances, and disputes, by investigate issues and recommending appropriate solutions, to promote resolution, mediate disputes and facilitate productive discussions between conflicting parties.
    • Facilitate effective communication between management and employees, ensuring transparency and understanding of company policies and decisions, to ensure that all relevant parties are informed and understand the implications of the matter at hand.
    • Develop and apply administration systems and practices, in collaboration with HR and management, to ensure consistent application of disciplinary procedures when necessary.
    • Conduct audits on the usage and application of ER systems and procedures, by key stakeholders, to rectify any shortcomings and misuse.
    • Advice management on the most appropriate cause of action when making decision on ER functions, to provide guidance on corrective actions and employment terminations.
    • Provide advice and interpretation services to all key stakeholder, when and as needed, regarding matters relating to the utilisation of ER functions and the integration with other HR functions, to address concerns and decrease possible misunderstandings.
    • Gather feedback from employees and provide insights to management on potential areas of improvement within the work environment, by working collaboratively with HR, the legal team, and management, to provide guidance on and enhance ER processes and systems.
    • Conduct internal investigations as required, by remaining professional and impartial until the investigation is complete, to address internal misconduct, while maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
    • Contribute towards employee training initiatives, by identifying employees suitable for further training related to the ER business area, to enhance employee engagement, job satisfaction, and overall workplace morale.
    • Organise workshops and training sessions for employees and management on conflict resolution, effective communication, and ER, to address any areas of uncertainty or concern, enhancing the positive interactions between employees and management.
    • Train and provide guidance to all TM employee and/or non-HR Manager, by identifying further training needs to ensure the proper application and use of all HR systems and procedures.
    • Monitor and maintain accurate and organised records of ER cases, by updating employee records, to ensure availability of the needed documentation for future reference, preserving departmental record and statistic concerning ER.
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports relating to ER statistics, latest developments and challenges faced, to keep management and all key stakeholders informed.

    Compliance Management

    • Stay up-to-date with South African labour laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure the company's policies and practices are compliant with relevant legislation.
    • Provide guidance and support to employees and management in understanding company policies, procedures and practices, to address queries and concerns related to ER policies and guidelines.
    • Review, monitor and maintain all ER and HR systems and procedures, by implementing all elements that are unique to each Business Unit, to ensure that they meet stakeholder expectations, are understood by TM employees, and are compliant with legislation, regulatory requirements and the relevant TM policies.
    • Monitor the implementation of legislative, regulatory and business requirements (policies and standards) in all TM projects, to ensure that they comply with the established requirements and provide guidance where shortcoming have been identified.

    Resource Management

    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
    • Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, by implementing systems and controls, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Keep all key stakeholders informed of the latest developments and trend relating to ER functions, to ensure their continuous understanding of the principles, labour laws, and regulations within the South African Mining Industry.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF7) or equivalent in Human Resources, Employee/Labour Relations, Personnel Management or Labour Law (LLB)

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years Human Resources or Employee Relations experience, of which at least two (2) years should be within the Mining Industry
    • Experience with Trade Union Shop Stewards, running disciplinary cases, reading and interpret legislation policies and agreements, drafting report and conducting trend analysis
    • Experience with The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) cases
    • Ability to work with the full Microsoft suite (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Advantageous: Experience in managing pre-arbitration, Labour Court Cases and training/ upskilling of colleagues

    Learning and Development Facilitator (TMM’s)-Mining

    Role Context

    • Conduct learning facilitation of Trackless Mobile Machinery Surface Mining Skills Programmes and ensure the proper operation of mining equipment.
    • Address identified unsafe operators’ behaviors and provided and report on on-the job- coaching interventions.
    • Monitor progress of operators and mining employee’s portfolio’s (theoretical and practical) progress.
    • Engage with the L& D Mining Specialist, production supervisors and mine training administrator.
    • Attend weekly and monthly departmental meetings.
    • Communicate training schedules to the relevant supervisors.
    • Ensure all learning records are recorded, uploaded and filed by the L&D administrator.
    • Submit weekly training progress reports to L&D Mining Specialist.
    • Attend ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management meetings.
    • Participate in ISO 9001:2015 audits.
    • Review learning material and supporting documents within the Mining Department.
    • Facilitate Ad Hoc training/ workshops as requested from time to time
    • Review, evaluate and monitor all training programs to ensure that they adhere to all Tharisa Minerals (TM) policies, legislation and regulatory requirements.
    • Collect feedback from participants and line management, by assessing the effectiveness of training programs, to identify shortcoming and recommend improvements.
    • Participate in L&D audits by preparing all relevant information and documentation needed and cooperating during on-site inspections, to ensure that the training programs and material used remain compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements.
    • Adress and report all non-compliance with TM policies, legislation and regulatory requirements to the L&D Specialist to ensure the needed rectifications are implemented.
    • Drive and monitor safety when conducting walkabouts in the plant/mine, so as to ensure full compliance with the TM policy and regulatory requirements, using no compliance as upskill opportunities.
    • Manage record-keeping and compliance with International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards, to uphold quality and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor the implementation and maintenance of internal quality management systems to ensure continuous improvement and adherence to regulatory requirements and standards.
    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
    • Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
    • Use assets and resources optimally within own area of responsibility.
    • Manage, monitor and coordinate all training logistics so as to ensure the availability of all the required resources (i.e., venue, tables, chairs, stationary, etc.).
    • Review and evaluate the learning material and supporting documents, by sending outdated material back to external providers and requesting the latest stock, to ensure that all learning material is valid and aligned to the latest requirements.
    • Identify and recommend the latest and most efficient tools to use in the moderation of all training programs, to ensure that assessment of the outcomes described in the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) standards and qualifications is fair, reliable and valid.
    • Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the L&D Specialist.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Participate in weekly and/or monthly meeting, with the L&D Specialist, to provide expert insights and feedback regarding upcoming training, challenges identified, possible solutions, and innovative opportunities.

    • Experience in facilitating Competent A and standard operating procedures (SOP’s) within the Surface Mining Environment.
    • Computer Literacy (Word; Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to plan, work under pressure and support safety delivery.
    • Technical product knowledge and skills and ability to solve problems.

    Fitter

    Role Context

    • Assemble, install, test and maintain mechanical equipment in the plant using the relevant power tools, and gas cutting equipment to ensure safe and operable condition of equipment. 
    • Change liners, repair shoots, screens, conveyor belts, jaw crusher and cone crushers in line with set standards and best practice.
    • Inspect and diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools to identify defects, hazards and breakdown cause then determine relevant corrective actions such as need for repair or adjustment in line with safety standards.
    • Obtain job card and permit to work and conduct all relevant pre-work risk assessments and record any potential risks to ensure all tasks are executed in a safe manner.
    • Collaborate with the engineering foreman to maintain health and safety standards for employees through the safe maintenance of equipment and stop and report any contraventions to MHSA, code of practices and mine standards to engineering foreman.
    • Evaluate and analyse through root cause analysis to determine breakdown causes or malfunctioning equipment and structure to identify areas for modifications or repairs and execute corrective actions.
    • Execute shutdown activities according to the established plan in line with standard operating procedures and codes of practice.
    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
    • Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
    • Use assets and resources optimally within own area of responsibility.
    • Contribute to the optimisation of asset care principles and management by safely applying and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and utilisation of assets.
    • Determine the need for critical spares and general spares and escalate to relevant stakeholder for sourcing, repairs and replacement as per set COPs.
    • Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Advise management regarding continued utilisation of equipment by highlighting potential hazards and risks to ensure safety and minimise risk
    • Contribute to the development of an appropriate plant specific Risk Management Policy and appropriate Procedures and Standards (Codes of Practice) by reporting any incident / near miss / injury or health hazards.
    • Oversee the implementation of a proactive approach to all safety protocols by creating awareness of hazards and behaviour in order to enforce compliance to minimise risk of accidents and injuries within the plant.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections, provide relevant and necessary training to ensure all employees adhere to safety guidelines all the time.
    • Participate in the coordination efforts to execute drills and escape procedures in case of emergencies and operational requirements i.e. blasting to mitigate risks and fatalities.

    Requirements

     Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 (NQF4)
    • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (advantageous)
    • Relevant Fitting and Machining/Turning Technical Qualifications: Red sealed Engineering Trade certificate or SAQA Verified Trade Certificate)
