    Chief: Fire and Rescue Services and Disaster Management

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Technology or SAESI Higher (Associate) Diploma or an equivalent service related NQF level 6 Qualification
    • 12 years of experience in all functions of a Fire Department, of which a minimum of 5 years relevant managerial experience
    • Computer literate and proficient in MS Office
    • Valid Driving Licence Code B

    Duties will entail:

    • Establish and manage the medium to long term objectives and public safety priorities of a productive and cost-effective fire services
    • To establish and develop organisational principles and processes for the delivery of emergency and disaster management services in the area of jurisdiction
    • Establish and maintain effective administrative systems and processes for the Fire Service
    • To manage departmental staff so that they can meet their objectives as stated in their job descriptions, duty schedules and performance plans, by performing related functions
    • Prepare capital and operating estimates and controls expenditure against the approved budget for Fire & Rescue Services
    • Coordinate fire prevention, educate and awareness programs
    • Manages and coordinate communication and liaison with all role-players and stakeholders

    Assistant Manager: AFS and Returns

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A relevant 3-year tertiary qualification, preferably a National Diploma or BCom with Financial Accounting as a major subject
    • Completed the Municipal Minimum Competency levels or required to complete the Municipal Minimum Competency within 18 months of appointment
    • Computer literate: MS OFFICE (Excel and Word)
    • Valid Code B driver’s license
    • 6 years relevant experience required which includes 2 years of supervisory experience

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Board 1 of the CA(SA) exams (Initial test of Competence) from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) or CA(SA) qualification
    • Minimum 3 years post articles experience
    • Experience in compilation of Final Accounts and Financial Statements

    Duties will entail:

    • To provide accurate financial statements, monthly financial management reporting, statistical information, returns, grant budgeting and administration, budgetary control, liaising with auditors and responsible for direct management of senior accountants of the AFS and Returns department
    • To meet all statutory requirements with regards to reporting and finalizing financial statements and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with relevant prescriptions of the MFMA, DORA, GRAP and other reporting legislative requirements

    Senior Mechanic

    Minimum Requirements:

    • N2 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification
    • Trade test, Qualified Red Seal Diesel / Earthmoving Mechanic
    • Technical administrative experience
    • Valid code EC driver’s license with valid PRDP
    • Minimum 5 years diesel/earthmoving mechanic experience
    • Experience in high voltage generators, earthmoving plant, refuse compactors, heavy and light vehicle maintenance, pumps and water systems, fitting & turning, machine shop, welding shop experience
    • Crane operator experience
    • Recovery truck and lowbed transport experience
    • High voltage generator maintenance experience
    • Welding and machine shop experience
    • Advanced hydraulic experience
    • Crane operations

    Preferred Requirements:

    Duties will entail:

    • Maintain a fleet in excess of 400 vehicles and plant under extreme pressure situations
    • Operational control and responsibility over a number of installations, plants, large and diverse workshops, depots or areas
    • Afterhours maintenance and call outs
    • Supervisory/advisory control over assistants, drivers
    • Responsible for decision-making in emergency situations
    • General administrative duties
    • Works independently within the maintenance program and with regular feedback to the Superintendent
