    Classroom Assistant

    Position Summary: 

    The Classroom Assistant will work collaboratively with the teacher to support the overall functioning and productivity of the classroom environment. They will assist in implementing educational activities, managing student behavior, and providing individualized attention to students. The Classroom Assistant will contribute to creating a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere for students to thrive.

    Responsibilities:

    Support Instructional Activities:

    • Assist the teacher in preparing teaching materials and resources.
    • Collaborate with the teacher to deliver instructional activities, including lessons and projects.
    • Provide support to students during classroom activities, ensuring understanding and engagement.

    Individualized Student Support:

    • Provide one-on-one assistance to students in need, including those with special educational needs or language barriers.
    • Help students with organization and time management skills.
    • Conduct individual and small group activities to reinforce academic skills.

    Classroom Management:

    • Promote a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
    • Assist in maintaining discipline and managing student behavior in accordance with the school's behavior management policies.
    • Monitor student interactions and assist in conflict resolution when necessary.

    Administrative Support:

    • Assist in record-keeping, such as maintaining attendance records and grades.
    • Help in preparing and organizing classroom displays and exhibits.
    • Complete administrative tasks as assigned by the teacher, such as photocopying, laminating, or organizing classroom materials.

    Parent Communication:

    • Assist with maintaining open lines of communication with parents, providing updates on student progress and behavior as directed by the teacher.
    • Attend parent-teacher meetings when required, providing valuable insights into students' performance.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • High school diploma required; associate's degree or higher preferred.
    • Additional training or certification in child development, education, or a related field desirable.

    Experience:

    • Prior experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred.
    • Familiarity with classroom management techniques is an advantage.
    • Experience working with students with special educational needs or diverse backgrounds is desirable.

    Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents.
    • Patience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
    • Good organizational and time management skills.

    Knowledge:

    • Familiarity with educational and instructional methods.
    • Understanding of child development principles.
    • Basic knowledge of relevant technology and software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).

    Personal Characteristics:

    • Enthusiasm and passion for supporting the educational development of students.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the dynamic needs of the classroom.
    • Professionalism and confidentiality in handling student and school information.

    Head Of School - High School

    Duties required:

    • Executes the academic policies and procedures for all academic and support staff
    • Ensures that timetabling is done effectively ensuring that there are sufficient classrooms available to accommodate students
    • Implements and evaluates the application of existing policies and ensures the effective implementation of all policies and procedures
    • Leads and manages the academic and support staff in the achievement of set school objectives and targets by ensuring that the school is a high performing entity
    • Manages and conducts performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and takes corrective action where necessary. Ensuring effective implementation and management of succession plans.
    • Implements strategic Human Resources in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements in partnership with the HRBP and HRC.
    • Ensures that the Employment Equity targets are met and identify suitable black candidates that can be mentored and developed
    • Ensures identification of critical skills essential for sustainability of service delivery and the development of succession plans
    • Effectively implement all Marketing initiatives to meet the enrolment targets and continuously strive to build and maintain a positive image of the school
    • Interview prospective new students and assist in meeting the school’s enrolment targets
    • Actively engaging in word of mouth marketing through all initiatives and events both at the school and at other school related functions
    • Manages the budget of the school working with the Executive Head and ensure cost containment
    • Supervises the effective management of the continuous debt collecting process and enforces the suspension of students where accounts are in arrears
    • Monitor the age analysis of the school. Assists with the compilation of the preliminary and final annual budget for the year with the assistance of the finance team and Executive Head
    • Effectively allocate resources and manage all daily activities of the school
    • Enforces the requirements of the OHS Act and oversees compliance
    • Identifies all risks and hazards and ensure precautionary measures are taken prior to the commencement of hazardous operations
    • Assumes overall responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of students, staff and visitors at all times
    • Effectively manage and ensure legislative compliance in terms of exam entries / registrations
    • Competencies/Skills/Requirements:
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, students and parents;
    • Energetic, self-motivated and able to use own initiative;
    • Excellent analytical skills;
    • Enthusiastic, assertive and flexible; 
    • Good organisational and administrative skills;
    • An open and creative outlook to education;
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff and learners and willingness to engage with learners and their families on a personal level to help children in the best way possible;
    • Must be a team player;
    • Computer literacy is imperative;
    • SACE registration

    Qualifications:     

    • Minimum requirement is a recognised Degree and/or a 4-year professional Teaching Qualification.

    Experience: 

    • Minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience in the same and/or similar type of position and environment. Minimum of 3 years managerial experience in the same and/or similar type of position

    Aftercare Assistant - Benoni

    Duties will include:

    • Supervising the lunch routine: serving and clearing;
    • Assisting with Aftercare supervision and activities;
    • Assisting with homework.

    Competencies required:

    • Good oral communication skills with pupils and parents;
    • Energetic and enthusiastic;
    • Able to relate well to young children;
    • The ability to love and nurture young children;
    • Be a team player

    Minimum requirement:

    • Matric or equivalent.

    Experience:

    • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in the same and/or similar type of position and environment
